2016 Kia Sorento AWD – Transfer Case Failure & Transmission Damage

This is what can happen when a failed transfer case is ignored.

The transfer case input splines completely stripped, which also damaged the transmission output splines. By the time it reached the shop, both the transfer case and the transmission required replacement.

⚠️ Symptoms to watch for:

* Clunking or grinding noise@
* Loss of AWD
* No movement or intermittent drive
* Vibration during acceleration

If you own a 2016 Kia Sorento AWD (or similar Hyundai/Kia AWD models), don’t ignore these warning signs. Catching it early may save the transmission and thousands of dollars in repairs.

One note: based on photos, it appears the splines are severely stripped on both the transfer case and the transmission output, which is a common failure on some Kia/Hyundai AWD models. If the vehicle still had some drive before repair, you could also mention that the wear progressed until the splines completely let go.
