Corrosion can happen quickly, regardless of vehicle age, as evidenced by this 2022 Raptor. Having spent the first 20k miles in New England, the winter salt had already begun to take its toll.

Our client reached out for Dry Ice Restoration of the underside, followed by our Rust Abatement package. This application of phosphoric acid chemically converts the rust to an inert surface, that is ready to be painted, (though that final step was not opted for at this time). Even so, once cured over a period of 24 hours, the previous areas of rust are darkened, removing the bright eye-catching orange of rust.

This combined approach is sure to halt the rust in its tracks and prolong the life of his new work truck.

This is the Karmann Ghia we worked on a couple weeks ago. Sometimes I feel like an archeologist as I uncover what “the last guy” did when he was in there.

Evidently, before this car had undercoating applied, they went at it with a metal scraper. The dark spots are remaining undercoat we elected not to remove because we discovered where it remained after dry ice was applied was bare metal.

Not the worst thing in the world as this vehicle was here for rust abatement and cleaning before going to the paint booth, but it goes to show that sometimes what you discover isn’t always going to be pretty.

Cryo-Shine will now be offering V***r Honing in-house!

What is V***r Honing?

Unlike other abrasive methods of refinishing, in V***r Honing the abrasives are suspended in a slurry. This pressurized slurry offers a more conservative cleaning process with a smoother, more even finish.

It is the best way to remove corrosion and paint (especially on aluminum) and drastically reduces the risk of pitting.

This is perfect for parts that are difficult to clean or replace with new old stock. They are only original once!

🛑 ✋🏻 DON’T BUY DEALER-INSTALLED PPF!

If the installer doesn’t wrap around the panel for complete coverage they aren’t worth the money and precut is an absolute joke. I mean seriously, what are those relief cuts on the mirrors? WHAT ARE THOOOSE?

If you’re not paying for quality film installed by a professional, you’re better off without it. Case in point, this 2018 Camry. The PPF FAILED and mildew began to feast on the underlying glue.

Removal is hardly something you want to tackle at home either. The cheaper films won’t come off in a sheet and is more similar to trying to remove packing tape. Once that’s off, it’s basically like starting all over again to remove the glue from the paintwork. This one took a heat gun, steamer, and solvents combined with dry ice blasting to be ready for paint correction.

And folks that DID pay for a higher-end film, you’re not off the hook just yet either. 🎣 There are warranty periods and recommended replacement times that factor into the equation. Most recommend 5-10 years at best, so you’ll still need it removed at some point. Failure to do so can result in damage to your paint as the film splits and contracts (exactly what you were trying to avoid).

There’s a good reason many shops will turn this work away unless you are paying for reapplication. At Cryo-Shine we aren’t afraid of any job and will go to the bitter end to deliver the results our clients are after. 💪🏻💀

In my opinion, if it’s not film, don’t waste your time or money.

Some captures of our work on a 2002 NSX with only 20k miles. The client is considering selling, so we completed a full underbody dry ice treatment followed by the engine bay, under front bonnet, and rear hatch.

This was followed by rust abatement on select components to halt further oxidation and improve appearance. All parts that could be replaced, but they are only original once.

Before the final decontamination wash, the undercoating was supplemented in select thinner areas to enhance the factory application.
