Allow me to introduce myself — I’m Capt. Fuskie, “The One and Only.”
I’m a 7th-generation Native Gullah descendant of Daufuskie Island, South Carolina, from the Simmons bloodline. I was raised on Daufuskie Island by my grandparents and surrounded by family, tradition, and the lessons of Lowcountry life.
I’m the founder and owner of SetWake Savannah River Tours & Daufuskie Island Experiences.
The name SetWake comes from two words joined together to create one meaning:
Set — the true degree of heading and direction.
Wake — the way a captain reads the water, where experience can tell the speed and movement of a boat just by watching its wake.
For me, SetWake represents knowledge, direction, and the wisdom that comes from time on the water.
When it comes to Daufuskie, my family carries a special wealth of knowledge about this island. To us, Daufuskie isn’t a tourist destination — it’s home.
We remember the crab boils, fish fries, field work, river work, long days, and cold nights when lighter wood in the chimney was all that kept the house warm. We did what we had to do to survive, and for us, that wasn’t a story — it was life.
I walk in the footsteps of many great people who came before me:

Their wisdom, hard work, and love for this island helped shape the person I am today.
