When you get into subwoofers with a lot of power, xmax, and strong motor force, acoustical energy becomes a very real factor. The enclosure has to be able to handle that energy without excessive flex or resonance. When enclosure panels flex, it puts additional stress on joints and hurts overall performance, leading to output loss and reduced efficiency.

This build is a simple but properly engineered ported enclosure for 2 15” Kicker SoloX 15 subs. The client didn’t want the added weight that comes with 1” Baltic/MDf or double laminated walls, so instead I focused heavily on internal bracing to keep the enclosure rigid and controlled.

We all know kickers love their air volume, 10.25 ft3 tuned to 34hz. Clean, strong, and built to stay musical while handling serious power, allowing for an enclosure capable of doing 150db+ with ease.

Finished this ported enclosure for a 2023
F-350. 2.7 ft3 tuned to 32Hz, 2.5” Seatlift. From what I’ve seen, rear fired subs have been done plenty of times in these trucks, but I believe this is the first one utilizing 3 Solo X 8’s.

Kept it simple and clean without the bells & whistles; but added small details to give it character while still matching the OEM interior so it looks like it belongs.
Custom acrylic side inserts, a front kick panel since that’s most likely the area to be kicked.

My theory on rear firing after some R&D; Better cabin loading, Allows deeper subs, Protects the cones. Downfire/upfire sound great, but one eats up volume, both are limited on depth and cone clearance.

In this truck, rear fire just made the most sense. Although it took me hours to design. Once it’s in the truck, I’m going to change a few things for the next one but I will be posting what this setup does on Term Lab on music not over powered. (what it truly does for the average daily driver at normal power) and its bandwidth.

One of the things I truly love about what I do is hearing a vehicle bangin’ from a distance on our main street, then seeing it’s one of my builds. Moments like that are exactly why this is called Bass BLVD🤘🔊

Build dump 📸

100+ hours of designing, building, staining, clearing, sanding, bodyworking, wrapping, cussing, reworking. Can’t wait to hear this setup in action, that’s what matters most 💪

Finally wrapped this build for a 2004 Escalade ESV, running two 15” HC’s on an 8K. I wanted an SPL build that didn’t look like a typical SPL build. Vinyl matched to the interior, beauty panels inspired by the dash bezel, and some custom touches to tie in the SUV’s candy apple red and chrome lift.

The enclosure is 6.5 ft’ tuned to 33 Hz, stained with a candy red like stain, with an epoxy finish. All 1” Baltic Birch with ¾” acrylic. (My back hurts even thinking about it)

I have over A LOT of hours into this one. A lot of rework, applying new techniques, figuring things out as I go. All of which would help for the next one, especially in the design phase. I will be posting some build photos. Now to get this installed and show what really matters, how it performs 😎

Spent a lot of time engineering this one for single 8” W7. The goal was clean, deep low-end bass with strong output and sound quality. All while keeping it within the requested footprint and still leaving a storage cubby without lifting the seat. From my research, this might be the first rear-fired subwoofer and port design for a 2019+ GM truck.

The main design approach was to treat the truck like the trunk of a car, giving the subwoofer and port the proper loading area. Since down/up firing wasn’t an option, I wanted to push this rear fire idea further. After the success of this build, I’ve already got new designs in the works using the same principle. With the owner’s front stage and tuning dialed in, this setup absolutely came alive and sounds amazing!
