Jokes aside: a DA absolutely CAN remove rotary holograms!

Holograms can be left behind after an aggressive rotary & wool correction step when the finish hasn’t been fully refined.

And the solution isn’t automatically “more rotary” or “switch to a DA.” It’s dialing in the right finishing combination for the paint in front of you.

A few things worth remembering:

→ After a wool + compound step, don’t call the job finished just because the deeper defects are gone. We recommend following a wool correction step with a foam polishing step to refine any holograms left behind

→ ACA 520 and AAT 502 are both designed for that refinement step and can remove holograms, haze, and polish trails when paired with the appropriate pad

→ Machine choice is only part of the equation. Paint hardness, pad, polish, pressure, speed, and pad condition can all change how cleanly the finish comes out

→ Inspect before sign-off. Our ACA 520 process calls for checking the finish under LED lighting at roughly 45° so those holograms don’t make a surprise appearance outside later 😅

Gloss-black trim really does show every single defect 😅

Lavish Detailing tackles chemical staining above the driver’s window with 3D ONE, and brings the gloss right back.✨

It’s an easy product to associate with paint correction, but ONE can be useful on other smooth, polishable exterior finishes too. The key is understanding what you’re actually correcting.

If the staining or etching is within the polishable surface layer, an abrasive correction can level that defect and restore clarity. If the chemical has permanently damaged the material itself, polishing can only take you so far.

A few lesser-known ways ONE can earn its spot in the cabinet:
→ Gloss-black/piano-black exterior trim: great for the fine hazing, staining and light defects these surfaces love to show. Start conservatively. They can be surprisingly soft
→ Clear-coated carbon fiber: 3D specifically uses ONE in its carbon-fiber restoration process for swirls, haze and oxidation
→ Localized correction: water spots, isolated scratches or small problem areas don’t always require changing to an entirely different compound/polish system
→ More cut or more refinement from the same bottle: pad choice is what lets ONE move between correction and finishing work

Just don’t treat every piece of “black trim” the same.
Textured or unpainted plastic isn’t a surface we’d approach with an abrasive polish like this.

Ceramic coating is the easy part… The finish underneath is what takes the work.

DJ Reyes | Automotive Detailing Expert shows the paint-correction step on this Tesla before moving into ceramic protection, using 3D ONE with a light polishing pad to refine the finish.

For a one-step like this, keep the working area controlled. The smaller the better- 2’ × 2’ sections, using slow, overlapping passes so the polish has enough time to work evenly.

A few things worth filing away before your next coating job:

→ Clean your pad as you go. A loaded pad changes how it cuts and finishes, so correction can become inconsistent from panel to panel

→ Wipe and inspect each section before moving on. If the finish still needs refinement, now is the time to catch it. Not after the coating is installed

→ Polishing is NOT the final coating-prep step. Once correction is finished, use a proper panel wipe such as 3D WIPE to remove residual polishing oils and leave the surface ready for the coating to bond

→ And if the paint has bonded contamination after washing, decontaminate before polishing rather than dragging it through your correction step

The coating can only preserve the surface you give it. Get the correction and prep right first.

A car doesn’t have to look super dirty for a pre-soak!

PrestoPrecision Mobile Detailing shows this F-250 with a light layer of dust and some stubborn bug residue before mixing up 3D Super Pre-Soak and applying it with a foam cannon.

The goal here isn’t to replace the wash.
It’s to loosen surface contamination before you ever make contact with the paint.

→ Never allow the pre-soak to dry on the surface
→ Rinse thoroughly, then follow with your normal wash process
→ Adjust your dilution based on the job and 3D’s recommended directions rather than automatically reaching for the strongest mix

Clean wheels can still look unfinished…

A few ways pros can get more out of it:

→ Use it as a drying aid. A light mist while drying adds lubricity and helps reduce towel drag.

→ On intricate wheels, try misting the microfiber instead of spraying the wheel. You get better control around spokes and lug recesses while minimizing overspray toward the rotor, caliper, and tire.

→ Spread with one face of the towel, then flip to a clean, dry face for the final buff. That second pass is what leaves the finish looking crisp instead of smeared.

→ Keep that towel in your wheel pile afterward. A wheel can look spotless and still leave brake-dust contamination behind in the microfiber.

Note: Final Touch isn’t your brake-dust cleaner.
Baked-on contamination should already be handled during the wheel wash and decon. This is what you reach for once the wheel is clean and you’re dealing with light dust, fingerprints, smudges, or that final gloss pass.

Final Touch is best used after the wash, before the photos, and right before the keys go back to the customer. ✨

Why does the prep matter?

Polishing a poorly cleaned surface can drag leftover dirt and contamination across the paint.
