Packing is easier when you’ve got a plan. Here are five simple tips to make the process a little easier:

1. Start with the stuff you use least. Off-season clothes, books, and decor are great places to begin.

2. Keep heavy things in small boxes. Books and tools add up fast. Save the bigger boxes for pillows, linens, and lighter items.

3. Fill empty spaces. Towels, clothes, or packing paper can help keep things from shifting around.

4. Label everything. Add the room, contents, and a number, and mark fragile boxes on two sides.

5. Pack an essentials box and keep it with you. Chargers, toiletries, medications, a change of clothes, and a few basic tools can make moving day much easier.
