HEADING BACK TO SCHOOL? MAKE SURE THEIR CAR IS READY, TOO!
Whether your teenager is driving back and forth to high school every day or your college student is heading off to campus, there's one more thing parents should consider adding to the back-to-school checklist: their car.
Before they're dealing with early-morning classes, late-night drives, colder temperatures and eventually another Connecticut winter, bring their vehicle in for a complete inspection and checkup. We'll look for the things that could become problems later: brakes, tires and tread, battery and charging system, fluids, belts and hoses, lights, wipers, heating and defrosting, and other important safety and maintenance items.
A weak battery that's fine in August may not be so fine on a freezing January morning. Worn tires become a much bigger concern when roads are wet, icy or covered with snow. And that little noise or vibration they've been ignoring? It's much better to find out what it is before they're an hour away at school or stranded on the side of the road.
