We’re excited to share that the ACOE has commenced dredging to ease travel in our harbor!
Dredging is underway at Sandusky Harbor, supporting safe navigation, the local economy and beneficial use of sediment for beach nourishment. 🚢🌊
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, is completing a $628,000 project to remove approximately 109,000 cubic yards of sediment from the Moseley and Straight Channels.
The work helps maintain safe access for commercial vessels, recreational boaters and other Lake Erie harbor users.
Project highlights:
✅ Supports a harbor with more than $322 million in annual economic impact
✅ Supports 864 jobs and 2.6 million tons of cargo handled in 2023
✅ Places 100,000 cubic yards of sediment at a nearshore site to support local beach nourishment
✅ Scheduled for completion by Nov. 1
Boaters should use caution near active dredging equipment and maintain a safe distance from work areas.
