Just upgraded the notorious "plastic valve cover defect" on this 2013 Ford F-150 3.5l. The affected years were 2011-2020, and not just the valve covers, but the oil pans are also made of cheap plastic that fails over time. The oil pan had a recall, but the valve covers did not make it that far, sadly.

Well, this customer can rest easy now, as he now has aluminum valve covers installed. BTW, finding ANY replacement valve cover was a nightmare, but finally tracked a set down n got it swapped out. His oil pan was taken care of with the recall, so good to go there.

Can't stress this enough, especially out here in Texas in the humidity. Use non ethanol gas for ANYTHING not used on a daily basis. It'll save you the money hiring me, to rebuild your carbs, clean your gas tank, and anything else affected by that bad gas. Here's a carb that sat for 6 month's and its gas tank

I hope this is not the new thing to expect everytime I need a part. Local shops don't carry them, online shops don't respond for updates. Already filed a claim with this company as well, as I had ZERO updates for over 2 weeks. Now they send me a shipping number. Glad my customers understand & are very loyal, otherwise I'd lose customers left & right at this rate

A week has gone by, and still cannot locate a right side valve cover for this 2013 F-150. Lots of places show this part to be "in stock". Once I order it and they charge me, id expect it to be processing. Well, one company is ghosting me, so I had to file a claim against them. Second company (parts geek) sent me an email saying part is backordered (they show 94 available online).
On to number 3, and over $1,000 floating out there due to these incompetent companies, as they charge immediately but it takes 3-7 to process a refund & waiting on claim to be approved.

Valve covers are not built to be "servicable" like replacing the gaskets and seals on it. So much for making things better. Looks like management is skimping on quality every year. Pretty soon these vehicles are gonna all be throw away type vehicles (one owner, trash em when there done, no resell value) Be lucky to get 10 years out of one, in the near future. This one is a 2013 and barely has 100,000 miles on it.

No thought goes into engineering these days. Pic is same bolt, first one is old radiator, where there is a gap behind it, even without the space that fan shroud provides. Second one is new radiator, with fan shroud as a spacer, but bolt still touching plastic radiator. Had to scrap the old bolts and buy new ones, just to be safe. Its amazing the quality of most anything these days. Wonder how bad it'll be in a few more years

Sometimes, having the right tools makes diagnosing a whole lot easier. Without this tool, I'm not sure if I would have ever found this tiny leak going on, caused by a previous shops work.

Radiator fan is missing a bolt, & fan shroud is vibrating against radiator, causing a pinhole leak.

Either there's something wrong with this fiberglass putty I ordered, or there's a trick that an automotive body person is un aware of. Normal dose of hardener = never cures. 2x the hardener = 3 days to cure til I can sand, but have to sand lightly. 3x the hardener (what the technical representative said to try) = 1 day to cure til I can soft sand. All 3 attempts, never cured solid. I decided to finish up with automotive putty, as this is ridiculous. Only downfall, is I cannot submerge putty in water (which is never planned on doing anyway)
