We often get asked why a window might look cloudy or white while the rest are crystal clear. In dual-pane windows, whether in a commercial building or a home, the culprit is usually a broken seal.
Dual-pane windows consist of two pieces of glass sealed together. If that seal breaks over time, air gets in and condenses between the panes. This creates a foggy layer of moisture trapped inside the glass unit itself.
Does this ruin the tint? Not at all! This is purely a visual issue with the glass. Our window film still adheres perfectly to the interior surface and will continue to block heat and function exactly as it should. The only true fix for the foggy look is replacing the glass unit, but rest assured, your tint is still doing its job.

The secret to a flawless window tint installation always starts with the preparation. When working on external-facing windows, they often accumulate a lot of stubborn dirt and grime. We treat the glass with the same care you would use on delicate dishes. First, we soak the glass thoroughly with a soapy water solution to soften any baked-on debris. Then, we use a surgical-grade blade to carefully scrape the surface clean. This ensures that absolutely nothing is left behind, giving the window film a perfectly smooth surface to adhere to for a beautiful finish.

Last week Solar Gard Window Film & PPF hosted the Panorama Pro Dealer Meeting on the beautiful Coronado Island. We had the opportunity to catch up with our tint fam, learn about the latest technology, and participate in educational workshops. At the end of it all, we hopped on the ferry to watch a baseball game in San Diego. What happens if you want to tint a window, but it has a small crack in it? We approach this in one of two ways. We usually advise replacing the glass first if the damage is severe. However, if the client wants to proceed, our job is to make sure the crack does not run further during the installation. We use plenty of soapy water and intentionally leave some water behind in the cracked corner. By avoiding firm pressure in that fragile area, we keep the glass intact while still providing a great looking finish. It is a delicate process, but entirely possible!

If you recently had your windows tinted, you might be wondering about the best way to clean them. The most important rule to remember is to never use cleaners that contain ammonia. Ammonia breaks down the window film at a chemical level and can ruin the tint over time. Instead, you should switch to an alcohol-based cleaner. We always suggest using a simple 70% rubbing alcohol solution, like what you find in a standard first aid kit. It cleans the film perfectly, helps maintain the finish, and will not interfere with your lifetime warranty. Keep your windows looking great for years!

We recently had the opportunity to tackle a commercial project at a local fire station. One of their biggest issues was intense heat and sun glare, especially in the kitchen area where the sun reflects off the concrete and pounds through the windows. People are always curious about how window film actually sticks to the glass. Most films use a water-activated glue. During installation, we mix a simple solution of water and generic baby shampoo. This soapy mixture lets the film easily slide into the perfect position on the glass. If an older film is being stubborn during removal, we just soak it with this solution and let it sit for a bit, just like soaking a tough dish in the sink! Once the film is in place and we squeegee the water out, the glue bites into the glass and sets up securely for a flawless finish.
