McKinley Grove a must stop on the way to the Dusy!

07/24/2025

For those planning to attend the Dusy run August 11th - 17th. The plan is to camp at Voyager Rock campground the night of the 11th and start the run the morning of the 12th. The trail head is just on the North side of the campground. Some of the group will be at the camp on the afternoon of the 10th.

A few tips for your travels...Clovis Ca is your last chance to pick up anything you forgot. A super Walmart is located at 1185 Herndon Ave. off the 168 freeway. Don't pass this exit if you really need anything other than ice and gas, however I recommend topping off both at this location. There are several gas stations at this exit. For people like me I also have to top off at Shaver Lake gas, Located at 41801 Tollhouse Rd. From this point the trip is a 100-mile loop back to this gas station. I have to carry additional fuel on my TJ to make it back to this location. There is no other gas after this point.

Getting to Courtright Reservoir just backtrack a quarter mile to Dinkey Creek Rd and head East. Continue down this road and take a right on McKinley Grove Rd. Two things to look for on this road, McKinley Grove a stand of Giant Sequoia's and worth the stop. Also, both the East and West entrances to Swamp Lake trail, this is the best place to park trucks with trailers for your tow pig. You can also try the parking lot just past the Dusy gate but they're first come first serve and often full. Park at the Swamp Lake entrance there are trail signs there. Continue on McKinley Grove and take a left at Courtright Way Follow this to Courtright Dam. Cross the dam and follow the road .67 miles to the Dusy gate on the left. Voyager Rock Campground is 2 miles in on the trail, follow the blue reflectors on the open granite areas.

If you have questions or concerns text Jeff at 619-990-5098. For those who are posted as going but aren't on my friends list post up in the comments, due to the great thinkers at Facebook I cannot see the names of attendees that aren't listed as friends...Dumb.
