This 2012 Mazda Miata MX-5 came in for a major refresh.

The convertible top is being replaced with a beautiful Stayfast cloth top with glass, and the interior is getting upgraded with black leather seats and red stitching.

A worn top can make a great car feel tired. This one is about to feel sporty again.

This is a mistake you don't want to make on an older truck.

David came back with his 2015 Chevrolet Silverado after realizing that replacing the upholstery without addressing the worn seat foam left an important part unfinished.

The foam loses its ability to support and recover after years of use. We also found damaged attachment clips that had to be addressed so the new upholstery could be installed correctly.

If you're spending money on a leather interior, don't overlook what is underneath.

This 2009 Porsche Cayman came in for a headliner replacement and armrest work.

The tricky part isn't just making the new headliner look right. It's getting everything back together without damaging the clips, sun visors, or surrounding interior. These European cars can be very particular.

Eliseo has worked on Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and other classic European cars, so this isn't unfamiliar territory.

When the foam behind a headliner starts breaking down, removing the fabric is only part of the job. The old foam becomes sticky and gets onto almost everything it touches.

On this 2009 Porsche Cayman, Eliseo shows how he uses a brush, scraper, and vacuum to clean each section before moving forward with the repair.

On this Porsche Cayman, we took the time to clean the old adhesive off, reinforce the weak areas, and prepare the surface before installing the new material.

The big pieces need to come off because anything left underneath can show through the finished headliner.

If your headliner is sagging, you might think it just needs more adhesive.

But look closely at what happens underneath. Once the old foam backing turns into powder and starts breaking down, putting more glue over it isn’t going to fix the problem.

The old material has to come off, the board needs to be cleaned, and the headliner needs to be rebuilt properly.

That’s the part people don’t always see when they try to repair it themselves.

Working on a 2009 Porsche Panamera means taking your time with the interior.

For this removal, we first take out the moldings and check for the clips holding everything in place. There are hidden clips in the center area, plus Velcro attachment points that can be easy to miss. We carefully locate each one before pulling anything farther apart.

Then we disconnect the wiring for the mirror components and continue removing the remaining interior material. The basic tools are trim removal tools, plastic pry tools, and a little patience. You want to avoid forcing the panels because Porsche interior pieces can be expensive to replace.

Once everything is removed, the next step is cleaning the area and preparing it for reassembly.

Taking apart a 2009 Porsche Panamera headliner.

Some pieces come out easy, like the garage opener. Others, like the interior light, require knowing exactly where the clips and tabs are located. Pry from the wrong side and you can damage them.

We’re also careful with the wiring while removing everything around the headliner.
