🔧💧 **DON CHEKO SERIES #11 — WHAT'S LEAKING UNDER YOUR CAR?**
Yesterday, Don Cheko roasted your Tío for leaking after three plates of menudo. 😂 Today, we're talking about the leaks that can actually cost you an engine, transmission, or worse!
That puddle under your vehicle is trying to tell you something. Here's how to start figuring out what it might be:
🟤 **ENGINE OIL:** Usually amber to dark brown or black. Often leaves a slick, greasy spot. Low oil can cause serious engine damage.
🟢 **COOLANT:** Can be green, orange, pink, yellow, or blue. Sometimes has a sweet smell. Losing coolant can lead to overheating and major engine repairs.
🔴 **TRANSMISSION FLUID:** Often red or pink when fresh, but can turn brown with age. A leak can lead to shifting problems and transmission damage.
🟡 **BRAKE FLUID:** Usually clear to amber, sometimes darker with age. A brake fluid leak is a serious safety concern. If you suspect one, don't drive the vehicle.
🟠 **POWER STEERING FLUID:** Can be amber, red, or brown, depending on the system. A leak may cause whining noises or difficulty steering.
💦 **CLEAR WATER:** Sometimes it's just A/C condensation, especially during our South Texas summers. That's usually normal!
⚠️ **DON CHEKO'S MECHANIC TIP:** Color alone doesn't identify a fluid. Age, contamination, and the vehicle's design can change its appearance. And where the puddle lands isn't always where the leak started!
Watch for dropping fluid levels, strange smells, warning lights, overheating, or changes in braking and steering.
If your car is overheating, losing brake fluid, or showing dangerously low oil pressure, stop driving and arrange for professional assistance.
