This 2001 Silverado came in for a custom tune to wake up its 5.3L with a Stage 1 camshaft! 🔥

⛽ Should you run premium fuel?

If your truck is tuned by Nelson Performance, we typically recommend premium fuel whenever possible.

💰 You may pay a little more at the pump today...
🚫 But you could save yourself a much bigger headache tomorrow.

Here's why:

🔥 More Performance
Higher octane fuel resists knock, allowing your engine to safely make the power your tune was designed for.

🛡️ Engine Protection
Premium fuel helps reduce detonation (spark knock), protecting pistons, bearings, head gaskets, and other expensive engine components.

⚡ Better Drivability
Higher octane allows the ECM to maintain optimal ignition timing, giving you smoother power delivery and better throttle response.

💵 Worth the Investment
The difference between regular and premium is often only a few dollars per tank.

Compare that to the cost of:
❌ Engine repairs
❌ Reduced performance
❌ The ECM pulling ignition timing because of lower-octane fuel

A few extra dollars today can help protect an engine worth thousands.

💡 Here's the good news...

At Nelson Performance, we can build your tune around the fuel you plan to run. Whether you use 87 (regular), 89 (mid-grade), 91 or 93 octane (premium), we'll calibrate your tune accordingly.

Just keep one thing in mind:
👉 The tune is only as good as the fuel it's designed for. If your tune is built for premium, you should continue running premium. If you want to run regular fuel every day, we can tune for that too. The key is matching the calibration to the fuel in your tank.

The mystery has been solved! 🔍

The culprit? 👇

⚡ A damaged engine harness ground wire.

This 2004 Chevrolet Suburban came to us with a crank-no-start condition after another shop replaced the power steering lines.

A damaged engine harness ground on the back of the engine block.

⚡ Here's the part many people don't realize:

Your engine's electrical system depends on clean, solid ground connections. A missing or damaged ground can interrupt critical circuits and cause symptoms that look like major component failures.

That's why proper diagnostics matter.
