Installing a used engine into a Ford 6.7L diesel is an experience that really tests your faith in humanity.

The seller always says the same thing: “Low miles, ran great when pulled,” which is mechanic language for “Good luck, brother.” You spend two days wrestling 900 pounds of greasy steel. Every bolt lines up perfectly except the one you actually need, and somehow the transmission is always half an inch off no matter how much you jiggle it or yell at it.

By hour twelve, everyone in the garage has stopped using proper tool names and started referring to parts as “that stupid thing over there.” Then comes the moment of truth — fluids filled, batteries hooked up, key turned slowly like you’re launching a space shuttle.

The whole shop goes silent. Either the engine fires up with a glorious diesel rumble and you celebrate like you won Daytona… or it makes one horrible metallic noise and suddenly everyone becomes very interested in checking Facebook instead of helping anymore.

This 2012 Ram 3500 was inspected for a vibration at highway speeds along with a metal on metal bearing noise being present.

CV joint in the front driveshaft was trash causing the vibration, so a remanufactured driveshaft was installed. That was the easy part. Metal pieces were found in the front differential. As you can see a washer was coming apart and ruined the front carrier.

To avoid this costly repair, we recommend that whoever is completing the standard 5K engine oil change, that all fluids be inspected, especially the fluids in the differentials and the transfer case. If this issue was found sooner, the carrier may not have been chewed up from the broken washer and wouldn't have needed replaced.

Just another heater core replacement being completed before the extreme cold this weekend in Kansas. We have replaced more heater cores in 2013-2018 Ram pickups than any other truck. You can see that the heater core itself is leaking and the A/C evaporator core is plugged up. It is important to not only replace the A/C evaporator core while the dash is removed along with all blend door actuators; but to also install a cabin air filter kit as most Ram pickups in this year range did not come from the factory with a cabin air filter. A cabin air filter can promote the life span and help keep the heater core and the A/C evaporator core from plugging up; that is if it is also replaced at it's correct service interval.

Having communications in any emergency situation can make a huge difference on the outcome. Here at Central Plains Diesel and Repair we are honored to work with Shawnee County Emergency Services on their Emergency Communication Network Truck. This bad boy can establish it's own communication network even when all other communication networks have been lost.

This truck received a new S&S Diesel DCR injection pump conversion kit. This kit replaces the disastrous CP4 injection pump with a proven Stanadyne two piston DCR injection pump. S&S, and PurePower engineers, developed a variant specifically for the Ford 6.7L Power Stroke that matches the CP4 output curve and does not require any software changes. This kit is truly a plug and play design!

The two-piston DCR pump is based on a compact and modular design for easy integration, has low hydraulic and acoustical noise, features ultra-fast response times, and is biofuel and low-lubricity fuel compatible.

P.S - Yes we were allowed to, and took advantage, to play with all the bells, whistles, and sirens!
