Watch to the end to see what REALLY caught my attention at the Annapolis Powerboat Show!

Don’t get me wrong, there are some incredible powerboats here, but I’m a sailor at heart, and I can’t help myself!

The Annapolis Sailboat Show kicks off this Thursday, and I think it’s pretty obvious which show I’m more excited about!

Sorry, powerboat guys. Nothing personal!

Our Yacht Rigger EAST (St Augustine) team knocked it out of the park with this custom battery rack!

Built for a 2018 Fountaine Pajot Saona 47, this rack houses the vessel’s Victron lithium batteries in a clean, secure, and easily serviceable installation. Each battery slides into position and is secured with retaining clips, while a clear plexiglass panel protects the entire rack.

The system packs some serious power, with 600Ah at 48V, an 8kVA Victron Quattro, a 3kVA MultiPlus, and two 8kW Arco Zeus alternators.

Great work by Jesse and the EAST team! It’s the little details in installations like this that really make a difference.

Not a bad way to start the workday!

There’s something pretty special about starting a re-rig before sunrise, watching the sky come alive while you’re working 60 feet above the deck.

This time-lapse captures about 5 or 6 hours of work in just under a minute. Plenty of trips up and down the mast, lots of running around on deck, and one incredible sunrise unfolding in the background.

Sometimes it’s worth slowing things down to appreciate the view, even when the work is moving at full speed.

Please join us in welcoming Julian Crisp to The Yacht Rigger team!

Julian joins us as our Rigging Technical Advisor, bringing decades of experience in the marine industry, from hands-on rigging and spar manufacturing to technical consulting and international sales.

Julian’s career began at just 16 years old, building fiberglass boats in the UK. At 17, he joined Z-Spars, where he worked his way up from building dinghy masts and booms to managing production, overseeing mast installations, and testing new designs.

In 2000, Julian moved to the United States to help run U.S. Spars, overseeing the production of masts and rigging for American boatbuilders. He later founded Sparman USA, traveling throughout the United States and Caribbean installing and servicing rigs.

His career also includes consulting for Sparcraft and serving as Sales Manager for Sta-Lok, covering North and South America.

In 2020, Julian and his family made a significant life change, relocating to Guatemala to focus on humanitarian work. Through his involvement with Feeding Faith, Julian has helped support underserved communities through initiatives providing food, clean water, and other essential resources. It’s a side of Julian’s story that speaks to his character and his willingness to put his experience and energy toward helping others.

It’s not often you come across someone with this kind of depth of experience across so many sides of our industry!

Julian will be working alongside our sales and technical teams, providing support with rigging estimates, troubleshooting, and technical questions, helping us continue to deliver the expertise our customers expect.

My favorite boat at the Annapolis Powerboat Show this year!

I’m a sailor at heart, but if I were ever going to cross over to the dark side, this is how I’d want to do it!

This is the Askari 65, a 65-foot aluminum expedition-style yacht built in my home country of South Africa, which makes it even more appealing to me!

With a 3,900 nautical mile range at 6 knots, this boat has the legs to cross oceans. Add 4 large en-suite cabins, a massive flybridge, and a solar roof that raises and lowers, and you’ve got a seriously impressive long-range cruising platform.

I managed to squeeze a quick walkthrough into 60 seconds, but there was a lot more to explore.

There are some incredible boats at the show this year, but this one gets my vote!

There’s something satisfying about installing the final touches on a re-rig.
These Waterline Design spreader boots are often one of the last things we install, and a nice sign that the job is wrapping up!

From an empty space to a fully set up booth!

We’re officially at the Annapolis Powerboat Show, and we’re here for the long haul! We’ll be spending the next two weeks in Annapolis, starting with the Powerboat Show and rolling straight into the Sailboat Show.

The Leopard 48 refit is moving fast.

We just posted a full update covering everything we’ve tackled so far, what we’ve found along the way, and what’s coming next.

We’re way behind on editing and have a ton more footage to share, so we’ll be working to get the next updates out ASAP.

A known weak point on the Leopard 50.

We’ve seen plenty of the factory aluminum dinghy chocks bent, cracked, or broken, so we designed our own replacement and build them in-house from 316 stainless steel.

They retain the original functionality, sliding into position when needed and folding flat like the factory originals when the tender is off the boat.
