The Volkswagen dealer couldn't figure it out, another independent Euro specialist was just guessing.
Flotron got it fixed
This 2015 VW Golf GTI came in with a problem that conventional shops run away from. Intermittent stalling issue only after more than 30 minutes of driving, and it'll only do it once or twice then it won't do it again until you cool the car down and start the cycle again.
The dealer said spark plugs and coils, no change. Then they said O2 sensors, no change.
The customer then brought it to a supposed Euro specialist independent and they suggested it was carbon buildup.
There is a theme here..... neither of these places did any real testing. An educated guess, while valuable, doesn't get the job done.
Then the car made its way to me. Step 0 revealed no obvious answers, so the only option was to replicate the customers concern. After driving many miles, I was unable to get anywhere from the data right off the OBD2 port, so we go further.
Once again we go back to the fire triangle. One is missing when this issue occurs, and with new Genuine plugs and coils installed I turned my attention to fuel.
I put a fuel pressure guage on the low side fuel line and continued my testing.
Bingo. When the car gets hot, randomly the low side fuel pressure will drop to 0 with ignition off. The fuel pressure regulator on the fuel pump assembly has failed.
A new Genuine VW fuel pump installed, and that's the end of this problem for our amazing customer.
