Wouldn't Ya Know Wednesday!

Coolant... antifreeze... whatever you call it, it's one of the hardest-working fluids in your vehicle!

A lot of people hear "antifreeze" and think it's only there to keep the engine from freezing in the winter. The truth is, coolant (also known as antifreeze) protects your engine all year long—whether it's a January cold snap or a July trip to the cabin.

And here's something many people don't realize: not all coolant is the same! Different makes and models require different types and formulas, and using the wrong one can reduce corrosion protection or even cause damage to your cooling system over time.

Your coolant helps:
- Prevent your engine from freezing in the winter.
- Keep it from overheating in the summer.
- Lubricate the water pump and other cooling system components.
- Help prevent rust and corrosion inside the engine, radiator, and heater core.

The funny thing is, you can pop the hood, see that the reservoir is full, and still have coolant that isn't doing its job anymore. Over time, the additives break down and the fluid loses its ability to properly protect your cooling system.

A quick coolant test lets us check:
- Freeze protection.
- Overall condition and acidity.
- Whether it's still protecting your engine or if it's time for a flush.

Ignoring old coolant can lead to expensive repairs like water pumps, radiators, heater cores, and overheating problems—and we'd much rather see you for a simple coolant check than a tow-in.

So if it's been a while since your coolant (antifreeze) has been checked, stop by and let our team take a look. We'll make sure your vehicle has the right coolant and that it's still ready for whatever Wisconsin weather throws at it.

Because around here, we know Wisconsin weather can go from below zero to road-trip season in a hurry—and your coolant needs to be ready for both!

Winter in Wisconsin can be tough on your vehicle — potholes, salt, freezing temps, and rough roads can all take a toll on your vehicle. Wouldn't ya know- spring is the perfect time for an inspection!

A post-winter inspection can help catch:
-Worn and sticking brakes
- Suspension or steering issues from potholes
- Tire wear and alignment problems
- Rust or corrosion underneath (Midwest winters will do that)
- Weak batteries from cold weather
- Fluid leaks and dirty filters

And don’t forget about those summer-only vehicles that sat parked all winter! Whether it’s a classic car, convertible, fun weekend cruiser, or extra truck, vehicles sitting for months can lead to weak batteries, dry-rotted tires, stuck brake components, fluid issues, and more.

Catching small problems early can save you from bigger repairs down the road- especially now with summer trips and car shows coming up.

If your vehicle is making strange noises, pulling to one side, vibrating, or just doesn’t feel quite right after winter — or even if it has been awhile since the last full checkup — it might be time to have it looked over.

Stop in and let our team help keep your vehicle safe, reliable, and ready for the (thankfully) warmer months ahead! 👨‍🔧🚘

🛑 Wouldn’t Ya Know Wednesday 🛑
Your brakes don’t usually fail all at once — they warn you first.

Squeaking, grinding, shaking, soft pedal feel, or longer stopping distances are all signs your brake system may need attention. Catching brake problems early can help prevent bigger repairs, improve stopping power, and keep your family safer on the road.

At St. Croix Falls Tire & Auto, we recommend regular brake inspections because your brake system is more than just pads:
✔️ Brake pads & rotors
✔️ Calipers & hardware
✔️ Brake fluid condition
✔️ Brake lines & hoses
✔️ Overall stopping performance

A lot of folks replace pads but skip the rotors or brake fluid service. The truth is, worn rotors can cause vibration and uneven braking, while old brake fluid can collect moisture over time and reduce braking performance.

Brake fluid is hydraulic, meaning it transfers the force from your foot on the pedal to the brakes themselves. As brake fluid ages, it absorbs moisture from the air, which can lead to internal corrosion in brake lines, calipers, ABS components, and the master cylinder. That moisture can also lower the fluid’s boiling point, causing a soft or spongy brake pedal during heavy braking situations.

Keeping the whole system maintained helps your brakes last longer and work the way they should when you need them most.

Don’t wait until it turns into grinding, pulling, or a costly repair bill. If something feels different when you stop, it’s worth having it checked.

🚗 Wouldn’t Ya Know Wednesday – Road Trip Ready Edition 🧳🔧

Well wouldn’t ya know… springtime in Wisconsin finally shows up, the snow melts just enough to remind us we survived another winter, and suddenly everybody’s planning road trips, lake days, and “quick weekend getaways” with the whole family in tow. And right about then is where we come in—helping make sure your trip starts easy, not stressful.

Before you load up the snacks, kids, dog, and half your garage, here’s your friendly reminder from the crew at St. Croix Falls Tire and Auto to make sure your ride is just as ready as the rest of the crew:

🔧 In the weeks and days before your trip-
• Check tire pressure (yes, even the spare… it’s always the forgotten one)
• Make sure your oil is fresh and topped off
• Top off coolant, washer fluid, and all the important fluids
• Test your battery before it tests you
• Check lights and wipers so you can see and be seen
• Listen for brake noises before they become “road trip entertainment”

🧰Helpful things you may want to pack-
• Jumper cables (future-you will thank you)
• Flashlight
• Basic roadside kit including some first aid items
• Water & snacks (because gas station food has limits)
• Phone charger or power bank

🛣️ Things to monitor besides the kids-
• Watch your gauges—your dash is talking to you, don’t ignore it
• Take breaks every couple hours to stretch and cool down a bit (you and your vehicle both need it)
• Pay attention to new sounds or vibrations
• Keep an eye on fuel before you’re down to fumes in the middle of nowhere

A little prep now can save a whole lot of “well wouldn’t ya know…” later on down the road… and maybe even avoid that classic “I told you so” look from the passenger seat that your wife has been practicing for years.😄

If you’re heading out soon, swing by or call us at (715) 483-3257 and we’ll make sure your vehicle is road-trip ready before you roll with a thorough 30 point inspection.
