🔧 **WOULDN’T YA KNOW WEDNESDAY** 🔧

# # # 🚨 MYTH: “The scanner says it’s the sensor, so I just need a new sensor.”

**Wouldn’t ya know… it’s not always that simple.**

When your check engine light comes on, your vehicle’s computer stores a **trouble code** that helps point us in the direction of the problem.

But here’s the part that gets misunderstood:

👉 **A trouble code is a CLUE — not a diagnosis.**

Let’s say a code points toward an oxygen sensor. Does that mean the oxygen sensor is bad?

**Maybe.**

But it could also be detecting a problem caused by something else, such as:

* An exhaust leak
* A vacuum leak
* Damaged wiring or a poor electrical connection
* An air/fuel mixture problem
* A misfire
* Another component causing the sensor to report readings outside the expected range

Think of your vehicle’s sensors as **messengers**. Sometimes the messenger is the problem.

Other times, the messenger is doing its job perfectly and telling you:

**“Hey, something over here is screwed up.”**

That’s why simply reading a code and replacing whatever part happens to be mentioned can get expensive FAST.

You replace the sensor.
The light comes back on.
You replace another part.
The light comes back on.

Congratulations — you’ve discovered what we lovingly call the **Parts Cannon.** 💸💥

Proper diagnostics means using that trouble code as a starting point, then testing and inspecting the system to figure out **WHY the computer set the code in the first place.**

And yes, those inexpensive code scanners are handy tools. We actually like them.

But if a $30 scanner could accurately diagnose every vehicle problem…

**we've wasted an absolutely ridiculous amount of money on diagnostic equipment and technician training.** 😂

**Wouldn’t ya know — sometimes the sensor isn’t lying. It’s tattling.**

**WOULDN’T YA KNOW WEDNESDAY!** 🛞

**Wouldn’t ya know… your tires need the right amount of air—not too much, not too little!**

Proper tire inflation is one of the simplest ways to help your tires last longer, keep your vehicle handling properly, and avoid unnecessary wear.

**UNDERINFLATED TIRES**
When tire pressure is too low:

* The **outer edges** of the tread tend to wear faster
* The tire builds up extra heat from increased flexing
* Fuel economy can suffer
* Steering and handling may feel sluggish
* In severe cases, excess heat can contribute to tire failure

**OVERINFLATED TIRES**
More air isn't better! When pressure is too high:

* The **center of the tread** tends to wear faster
* Less of the tire may be contacting the road
* The ride can become harsher
* Traction and braking performance can be affected
* The tire may be more vulnerable to damage from potholes and road hazards

**AND DON’T FORGET THE TREAD!**

Air pressure is only part of tire health. Take a look at your tires every once in a while for:

Uneven tread wear
Low tread depth
Cracks or dry rot
Bulges or bubbles in the sidewall
Nails, screws, or other punctures
Abnormal wear on the inside or outside edges

Uneven wear can sometimes point to other issues too—like **alignment, suspension, or tire-pressure problems.**

**Quick tip:** Check your tire pressure when the tires are **cold**, and use the pressure listed on your vehicle’s **driver-door placard or owner’s manual**—not the maximum pressure printed on the tire sidewall.

A few minutes checking your tires today could mean **better handling, longer tire life, and fewer surprises down the road.**

CV Axles vs. U-Joints – What's the Difference?

These two parts have one important job in common: they transfer power from your engine to your wheels. But they do it in different ways depending on what you drive.

🚗 CV Axles (Constant Velocity Axles)
Found on most front-wheel-drive vehicles and many all-wheel-drive vehicles, CV axles allow your wheels to receive power while turning and moving up and down with the suspension.

Signs your CV axle may be failing:
✔️ Clicking or popping noise when turning
✔️ Grease splattered around the inside of the wheel (from a torn CV boot)
✔️ Vibration during acceleration
✔️ A sharp clunk when changing gears, accelerating or decelerating.

🚙 U-Joints (Universal Joints)
Common on rear-wheel-drive trucks, SUVs, and vehicles with driveshafts, U-joints allow the driveshaft to flex as your suspension moves while still transferring power to the rear wheels.

Signs your U-joints may be wearing out:
✔️ Clunk or bang when shifting into gear
✔️ Vibration that gets worse with speed
✔️ Squeaking or chirping at low speeds
✔️ Metallic knocking from underneath the vehicle
✔️ Clunking when shifting between Drive and Reverse

⚠️ Don't ignore the warning signs!
A worn CV axle or failing U-joint won't fix itself. Catching the problem early can help prevent more expensive drivetrain repairs—and keep you safely on the road.

🚗 Wouldn’t Ya Know Wednesday: Those Little Lights That Keep You Out of Trouble! 💡

Ever see the ABS, ESP, or BAS light pop up on your dash and wonder, “What does that even mean?” 🤔

These systems are some of the hardest-working safety features on your vehicle — quietly helping you keep control when roads, weather, or unexpected situations don’t cooperate.

🛑 ABS — Anti-Lock Brake System
Your ABS system helps prevent your wheels from locking up during hard braking.

When you slam on the brakes, sensors at each wheel monitor how fast your tires are spinning. If one or more wheels start to lock up, the ABS module quickly adjusts brake pressure (sometimes hundreds of times per second!) to help keep your tires rolling and your vehicle steering where you want it to go.

Why does that matter?
✅ Helps you maintain steering control during emergency stops
✅ Helps reduce skidding on slippery roads
✅ Gives you better control when braking in rain, snow, or ice

⚠️ ESP — Electronic Stability Program (also called ESC)
ESP is like a vehicle “guardian angel” working behind the scenes.

Your vehicle has sensors that monitor:
🔹 Steering wheel direction
🔹 Vehicle speed
🔹 Wheel speed
🔹 How your vehicle is actually moving

If your vehicle starts to slide, fishtail, or not follow the direction you’re steering, ESP can step in. It may apply braking to individual wheels and adjust engine power to help bring your vehicle back in line.

Example:
➡️ You turn too quickly on a slippery road and the rear of the vehicle starts sliding out. ESP can apply the brake on specific wheels to help correct the slide and keep you headed where you intended to go.

🚨 BAS — Brake Assist System
BAS helps when you need to stop right now.

Many drivers in an emergency don’t press the brake pedal hard enough or fast enough to activate maximum braking power. BAS recognizes a panic stop by monitoring how quickly you hit the brake pedal and how much force you’re applying.

When it detects an emergency braking situation, BAS can automatically increase brake pressure to help you stop as quickly as possible.

Think of it as your vehicle saying:
“Don’t worry, I know you mean STOP!” 😳

💡 So what happens when these lights come on?
Your vehicle may still drive and brake normally, but you may not have the full safety protection these systems provide — especially when you need them most.

A warning light could be caused by:
🔧 Wheel speed sensors
🔧 Brake system issues
🔧 Steering angle sensors
🔧 ABS module problems
🔧 Low brake fluid
🔧 Electrical issues
