Destination of the month: Bayfield, Wisconsin.
Population: around 500. Views: Lake Superior in every direction. Things to do: more than you'd expect in a town of 500.
Bayfield is the jump-off point for the Apostle Islands β 21 islands on the largest freshwater lake in the world. You can kayak the sea caves, take a boat tour, or just set up at a campground a mile from town and watch the water for a while. There are orchards, a great food scene for a small town, and a music venue (Big Top Chautauqua) that's genuinely worth planning around.
It's about 4 hours from the Twin Cities. Most people have never been. That's exactly why it's worth going.
Have you made it to Bayfield? Did you get over to the islands? Give us your highlights.
