Went rock crawling for the first time and ran the entire Rubicon Trail in one day. Took a friend and I 12 hours from one end to the other. My little XJ on 33s and a 3.5” lift did way better than I expected. With lockers this thing can climb!

Road racing and autocross are all about speed while rock crawling might be the slowest “Motorsport” there is. Still plenty of adrenaline inducing moments for a noob rock crawling driver like me.

I needed a lot of spotting in the beginning but began to figure things out as the day went on. Shoutout to for the spotting! I bypassed Soup Bowl, a Little Sluice and Big sluice. The rest we took a lot of harder optional lines like Heckle Hill.

This trail is relentless. Kept joking with my friend that we live there now.

That sweet emotion when a new build moves under its own power and leaves the garage for the first time! I’m beyond excited today! Huge huge thank you to my friends who made this possible. Including Travis with the tig skills on my custom header, with a sweet set of LS motor mounts for their Mustang suspension and for that sweet 7.25” clutch. It’s so smooth and the pedal effort is so light! The is officially drivable! Just need to work out some bugs before it’s ready for a shakedown at an autocross.

I could listen to this all day! That clutch gives this some great throttle response! Quick walk around of the as it is finally getting close to moving under its own power again!

A bit of oil smoke on revving. Hopefully that goes away as the rings seat. Got the clutch bled and working today. V3.0 of the fuel system is working. After too many corvette filter regulators that were bad out of the box I switched to a FiTech regulator. Motor is a lot happier at 60 PSI instead of 80. Should have the brakes flushed and bled tonight. Then I just need to get the reverse cable working on the trans to see if this thing can move under its own power. Though there is still a number of items on the punch list left.

Neighbors and I organized a BBQ and neighborhood car show yesterday. It was so much fun and even better than I expected. A great mix of cars and people. And not just for car people, seeing a pack of kids running around was great too. They even scalped a few adults with a lemonade and art stand 🤣. Great food and a great time. Definitely going to have to make this an annual tradition.

The lives! True to form it’s fought me every step of the way. Fuel system problems. Brand new filter regulator bad out of the box. And a brand new starter bad out of the box! Brand new AN fitting that was bad. And more. But it’s running.

The Team TCI BananaHammockK5 is putting in work here at LSFestWest. We did and Track-X (mini road course) yesterday and did pretty well. 2nd in both but fasted combined time. We get to do it all again today!
