What’s your thoughts? I’ve definitely seen a ton of custom chops and garage builds. I’ve also seen a bunch of builders (influencers) selling “the look” for big money!

The MC world is changing.

I’ve talked about this for a couple of years now. I think we are in the middle of a major change in the MC world.

It’s always hard to see the cultural change while it’s happening but I think there’s now enough evidence to actually see where it’s heading.

I think overall this next generation of bikes don’t care about the established protocol or even the idea of different MCs being on different levels. Think 1% vs Mom & Pop club.

They reject the concept and instead want to concentrate of riding, racing and wrenching.

A good example of this is the chopper clubs springing up. These clubs may or may not have a back patch and many times do not have officers.

They just get together to build and work on chops. Then go out and ride and party. They even put on events just like clubs.

Now I think what’s going to happen is the MCs are going to shift a little towards less rigidly and these “new” type of clubs will eventually take on a little more structure to fit into the MC world in general.

Time will tell but that’s what I’m seeing in my little corner of the world.

Two weeks out. Last Swap of the year. We’ve got a toy drive going on. We’re gonna have all kinds of killer vendors per usual. Maybe those Knucklehead parts will show up this time. Maybe it will just be Bates ribbed Cobra seats. You never know

I’m happy to say I now am in possession of Rich Ostrander’s 67 FLH. If I remember correctly it was the bike Rich rode when I first joined Fort Sutter. There were several club members hands in and on this bike which makes it more special to me. Thank you Bob Henry for letting me keep it at my house from here out.

Nice write up for Rich.

By now you may have read that Rich Ostrander, aka Dr Sprocket, passed away on Friday. I talked to him a few weeks ago and he was genuinely pleased that he was able to share his knowledge of – and love for – old custom motorcycles through the pages of Greasy Kulture.

His association with the magazine went right back to when we started; his Knucklehead first appeared on our pages in 2008. His first column in the mag was in issue 27, his last in the current issue 105.

He told great stories and was a font of fascinating information. He was a bike builder and an artist in metal. I loved getting his emails and his packages from Sacramento. In the early days, he'd hand-write his column and post it to me, complete with photo prints and clippings from vintage magazines. Once, he even included an original Ed Roth scoop.

This was the last bike he built, and that we featured, for his son Scott.

My sincere condolences go to his family and friends, and countless admirers from around the globe. To say he'll be missed is an understatement. Farewell Rich; as you used to say at the end of your columns, 'down the road...'.

Mark your calendar’s! Now monthly. Every first Sunday of each month.

Big news: we’re hosting the NorCal swap every month next year. They will mostly fall on the first Sunday of the month but with a couple exception’s. Hanford will be on the usual Friday and Saturday schedule and that will roll into a NorCal Swap on Sunday, just like it used to be. Will the swap implode or explode?! Only one way to find out: show up and please help spread the word nerds
