Always enjoy the privilege of working on an E39 M5.

Matt’s Anthracite in the shop for some maintenance, an E60 brake master cylinder retrofit, and fixed an issue with the sunshade. The master cylinder retrofit is to improve brake pedal feel by increasing the bore size of the brake master. The E39 5er(especially the M5) suffer from a typically low, spongey brake pedal and this aims to improve that. Where Matt’s M5 has a Stoptech trophy BBK on all 4 corners increasing the total volume of the calipers, this is especially pertinent.

Work we performed:
-Oil change
-Transmission fluid change
-Differential fluid change
-E60 brake master cylinder retrofit
-Brake flush with Motul RBF660
-Engine air filters
-Pollen filters
-Fuel filter
-Advised and rotated tires in preparation for some track time
-Made an adjustment to the headliner so it doesn’t chafe on the sunshade

This is the first E39 M5 I ever got to drive 10 years ago and its a pleasure to still work on it today. I’ve owned mine for 5 years and put over 70k on it, have driven maybe a dozen different examples over the years and still find myself obsessed. A Golden Era car to the fullest.

Alex decided to void that warranty and extract more performance from his 2026 RS3. The 8Y generation has had quite a few improvements over the 8V in terms of driving experience, I could not believe how good the steering feel and turn in was in this car.
We put together a nice performance package with Unitronic parts as they just released support for the 8Y recently.
We went ahead and performed:
-ECU unlock with Uniconnect
-Catted downpipe
-Larger intercooler
-Flex fuel kit with controller and bigger port injectors(These utilize DI and PFI stock, however the port injectors are merely to keep the intake valves clean)
-Turbo Inlet and AWE intake

This car rips! Can’t wait to see what its like with some ethanol. The flex fuel kit is really cool because like other platforms it utilizes an oem GM flex fuel sensor and allows the DME to adapt to varying ethanol content in the fuel vs having to run a precise mixture in the tank, which can be very difficult to measure accurately when using ethanol from the pump which often varies quite a bit from its advertised content.

Syed’s AP2 S2000 received a set of Ohlins road and tracks and an HKS cat back. The HKS exhaust is the best fitting exhaust I have ever installed and Ohlins are some of the best suspension for a street driven car. Ohlins arrive completely disassembled which is nice since I like to grease the threads for the ride height and spring preload adjustment collars to keep them adjustable long term.

We had the pleasure of working on this imported FD RX7 recently. The story behind this car is cool too, its owner Chris was stationed in Okinawa Japan and had purchased the car while living there and had thoroughly enjoyed it in Japan during his time there, then imported the car when he came home!

The car was in the shop to address a leaking steering rack and a bump steer concern, which we found a bent sway bar end link and roll center INcorrecting tie rod ends had been fitted. We replaced the rack, inner tie rods, sourced oem outer tie rod ends and replaced the sway bar end links.

We are comfortable with taking on Japanese classics as well. With TJ around the shop more we have a wealth of knowledge on hand to handle cars like this and with a background in high end cars, Golden Era Motorsport delivers the quality you’ve come to expect!

Luke’s gorgeous well kept E46 M3 in the shop on friday to replace the front wheel bearings to resolve a brake squeal/brake drag concern. I’ve worked on and drove a couple dozen E46 M3s over the years and this example is one of the finest.

Josh’s supercharged M coupe in for some maintenance and small items. Z3 M coupe is one of my personal favorite Bmws. This one has some very tasteful modifications and an awesome, rare set of Jonesmechanical “Super star” wheels.

Work we performed:
-Diagnosed airbag light, found failed passenger seat belt retractor
-Supercharger oil change
-Replaced both belts
-Replaced lower radiator hose, expansion tank, and all new clamps on the rad hose and expansion tank hoses
-Brake fluid flush and flushed the clutch line
-checked and advised on a suspected oil leak, found it was residue from prior power steering hose failure. Thoroughly degreased the affected area.

Classic M cars are what we do best here at Golden Era Motorsport!

Modified 1986 930 turbo went home today after a long list of work. What started off as a bunch of deferred maintenance ended up becoming much more after encountering a catastrophic failure of the turbo oil feed line, a rocker arm nut that was found almost completely backed off allowing over 1/2” of valve lash on cylinder 6 intake valve, numerous missing bolts in brackets etc. A lot ended up going into this one but happy to reach the finish line, for now. We have a few winter projects to dive into i’m looking forward to!
I haven’t driven a modified 930 turbo in probably 8 years now but compared to a stock one I drove earlier this summer, this car is a ripper! Definitely all of 400hp in boost. This one is pretty typical for the time period, it has a K27 turbocharger, Andial intercooler, Clewett coil pack ignition and electromotive standalone ignition controller, but still on CIS fuel injection.

Work we performed this visit:
-Post purchase inspection
-Oil change with Motul 300V 15w50
-Gearbox fluid change with Swepco gear oil(very impressed with this fluids film strength)
-Installed Braided stainless oil feed line
-Replaced the oil saturated, burned turbo blanket
-Replaced the fuel filter
-Replaced the air filter
-Performed brake fluid flush
-Replaced the fan belt
-Refinished engine tins and the engine mount bracket
-Repaired some minor fire damage to the area above the turbo
-Replaced all 12 spark plugs and gapped at 0.024” for boost
-Replaced seals in the turbo oil return scavenge pump
-Replaced missing bolts in shifter selector rod and applied a dab of red loctite
-Adjusted shifter
-Performed valve adjustment and replaced valve cover gaskets and hardware
-Replaced Wideband 02 sensor to fix the inoperable AFR gauge
-cleaned the engine bay thoroughly
-Topped it off with a quick 1 step polish and exterior/interior detail!

2023 Lamborghini Urus parasitic draw/random alarm activation diagnosis and repair. Found the alarm siren module internal battery failed which causes the battery to leak onto the circuit board and created a battery draw, which then when vehicle battery voltage drops while the car is locked will cause unwanted alarm activation. Simple diagnosis and repair

Been an incredibly busy stretch lately! Haven’t posted in a while. A few notable things from the last 2 weeks
-2011 Audi r8 25k service (Oil change/Brake fluid flush/cabin filters)
-Had 3 F80/F82 in this past week for general maintenance. One M3(not pictured) we did oil change and spark plugs, white M4 for oil change/DCT fluid and filters/rear differential service, grey M3 got 60k service of Oil change, spark plugs, brake fluid flush, rear differential service, cabin and engine air filters. See attached, the shrunken oil filter and spark plug condition. Maintenance is key!
-Modified 930 turbo in for an assessment and major maintenance. The owner recently purchased on an auction site and while its in incredible condition inside and out, after sitting in storage since 2002 this car needs a lot of maintenance and miscellaneous parts refreshed to be enjoyed safely and reliably. Coupled with a bolt falling out of the shift linkage and the turbocharger oil feed line rupturing(causing a mess that took me nearly 5 hours to clean up and a small “thermal event”) this car is going to be a really fun and gratifying project. Cannot wait to share the end result!
-B9 RS5 recently got some bolt ons. The intercooler kit is cool, from the factory its an air to water heat exchanger that commonly will leak coolant internally causing mysterious loss of coolant. The air to air intercooler kit eliminated this and also increases cooling efficiency to boot!

And in between we have had numerous other general auto repair tasks along the way. General maintenance, brakes, light repair etc is a crucial part of what we do and keeps the lights on so we can pursue more involved projects.

Please be patient with me, as a one man shop it is a tremendous amount of work to be the service advisor, the parts guy, and the technician diagnosing and repairing vehicles. Even working 10+ hours a day and often 6-7 days a week, there is still only so much you can do in a day especially when trying to meet and exceed quality expectations. However, I am working on a plan and if all goes well this should change. Expect an announcement soon!

E46 M3 valve adjustment amongst a few other repairs. Rare to see one of these so clean inside! These have a tendency to develop heavy oil varnish.

Routine valve adjustment is a critical maintenance item on the S54 engine. While per Bmw it is recommended every 60k miles, we recommend it every 30k especially on cars driven hard/seeing track use. Routine valve adjustment is cheaper than dealing with a burnt valve or damage to the rocker arm/camshaft
