Here’s another one that surprises a lot of people:

Glass isn’t technically a solid—it’s an amorphous solid, meaning its molecules are arranged more like a liquid than a crystal.

What that actually means in plain terms:

In materials like metal or quartz, atoms line up in a repeating pattern (crystal lattice)
In glass, the atoms are randomly arranged, like a frozen liquid

👉 That’s why glass:

Doesn’t have a true melting point (it softens gradually)
Can be shaped smoothly when heated
Breaks the way it does instead of cracking along clean crystal lines

Why?

Tempering puts the glass under internal stress:
