Why Would You Stand on a Mower All Day When You Could Sit?
Thatās probably the question I get asked most about my John Deere Q800 Series stand-on mower.
The truth is, standing on a commercial mower isnāt the same as standing on the ground for eight hours. The operator platform is suspended and designed to absorb bumps and vibrations, allowing your legs to work like natural shock absorbers. Instead of every bump traveling directly into your lower back, your body can move with the terrain.
On rough properties, I actually find a stand-on mower more comfortable than sitting. When youāre seated, youāre locked into one position and every rut, dip, and bump gets transferred through the seat. On the John Deere Q800 Series, I can shift my weight, adjust my stance, and let my legs absorb the impact.
Another advantage is reduced stiffness throughout the day. Since Iām already standing, itās easier to step off the machine to open gates, move obstacles, clean up debris, or talk with customers. Iām not constantly climbing in and out of a seat hundreds of times during the workday.
The visibility is another reason I prefer a stand-on mower. Standing gives me a better view of the mowing path, landscape beds, sprinkler heads, and terrain changes, helping me work more efficiently while delivering a cleaner finished product.
The John Deere Q800 Series combines that visibility and comfort with commercial-grade productivity, excellent maneuverability, and the durability needed for daily lawn care operations. Whether youāre mowing residential properties, large commercial sites, or anything in between, the stand-on design helps you stay productive while maintaining a high-quality cut.
After spending hours on both sit-down and stand-on mowers, I understand why so many professional landscapers switch to stand-on machines and never go back.
