Targa Great Lakes 2026 is in the books. To say it was a blast would be an understatement. The Running With Scissors 718 did a great job with the Vitour P1 tires all around. These tires have 2 Targa events on them and still have a shadow of swordfish on the tread despite beating on them like they owe us money. Day 4 at Autobahn was the first track event with them in the wet, and I have been on sketchier tires for sure.
Day 1 started out getting to Blackhawk Farms in South Beloit at 11am and finding an issue with wheel bolts. Some scrambling and help from all around and we got the car to be able to pass tech and get us through. Extra thanks to Bob Miller for the last minute ride into town! We both ran well after a slow start. Loaded up and made the longest commute and got to Grand Rapids about 11pm to kick off the first parking lot party.
Day 2 we finished the drive over to Grattan Raceway. We both had a slow start again, but thanks to some friends getting us out of the funk, we managed some solid times again. After our sessions there, we drove to Tire Rack in South Bend where for the first time ever I managed to put down great numbers on the skid pad. After a great meal from Tire Rack, we commuted up to South Haven for what turned out to be an awesome parking lot party!
Day 3 started out at Gingerman. No track sprints here, straight into full sessions. Times were pretty good out of the gate, but our second sessions yielded some much better times, with Stef dropping 8 seconds. After we got off track it was back to Tire Rack for the autocross. We should have been way better than we were there, but we couldn't seem to find a clean run between the 2 of us. From there we got over to Joliet where the party in the lot started while we waited to be able to check into our rooms due to a worldwide outage.
Day 4 started with the drive over to Autobahn in the rain. We had our drivers meeting and sent every vehicle available to help dry the track. After a half hour, conditions were dry enough to start sessions. Stef went out for a couple laps to feel how the car behaves in the wet. I did 2 sessions and thrashed around and called it a day. It was sad to say goodbye to old and new friends, but already looking forward to next year!
