If you get into an unfortunate accident the first thing your insurance company is going to do is try to get your vehicle to their contracted shop and trap your vehicle. You are not required to bring your vehicle to their shop and you have the right in New York State to choose your repair shop of choice . Do not let any insurance company take advantage of you during an unfortunate accident .

Deer season and winter are rapidly approaching. Good tires, brakes, and wiper blades are always helpful. So is a good insurance policy. Make sure the coverages you have match your personal needs to avoid additional out of pocket expenses or inconveniences . The insurance policy you choose can save you or cost you dearly. Do not rely on an insurance company to pick the policy for you. And do not assume because an insurance company runs million dollar marketing ads that they are “your friend”. I promise you they are not . And at the end of the day, you are only as good to them as the policy you purchased .

Ever need a medical procedure the doctor orders and your insurance company puts a stop to it ? They intervene and want you to try 10 other approaches before what your Dr recommends which usually waste your time and delay appropriate medical care and required treatment ?

The same applies to your vehicle . NEVER allow an insurance company to tell you what shop to use. The vehicle is YOURS. And YOU make the choice. Whatever shop you choose , YOU the customer should always make that choice and NYS allows that right .

Insurance is just a form of payment they are not repair experts.

INSURANCE COMPANIES PAY BASED ON YOUR POLICY; NOT BASED OFF WHAT YOU NEED OR WHAT IS REQUIRED TO FIX YOUR VEHICLE.

As such it is critical to have YOUR POLICY ( aka a contract) reflect the coverage you want BEFORE you get into an accident .

Needing a rental car doesn’t seem necessary until you actually get into an accident and you have no wheels and have to get your kids to daycare , work , etc .

If you do not want aftermarket or junkyard parts then you can add an OEM parts endorsement to your insurance policy.

Due to the excessive costs of parts and materials and what this industry faces, The gap is widening between what repairs actually cost and what insurance covers. This is only going to get worse folks and there is minimal to no oversight by NYS that protects YOU.

I encourage all folks to at least review their insurance policies and make whatever changes you may need.

After an accident , The shop YOU CHOOSE is absolutely critical . Everyone has the right to choose their repair shop despite the shop your insurance suggests .

Some shops will repair your vehicle the fastest and cheapest way possible because they are pressured and influenced to do by insurance companies.

DM Collision is an independent repair shop that focuses on quality and customer service. We accept insurance , but refuse to be influenced , controlled , or under contract by any insurance company . This promotes the best repair possible for deserving customers

Auto Insurance coverages are not keeping up with the times. Sadly, the State does not offer adequate insurance regulation or oversight to an area where folks are getting short changed daily — by their insurance COVERAGE.

Many folks think because they have insurance that insurance “pays for everything”. Sure they will pay based off the fine print of your policy, but that does not necessarily mean your policy matches your repair needs or even your vehicle. Vehicle engineering is advancing faster than anyone can keep up — including your insurance.

Advanced vehicle electronics require almost every vehicle now to undergo pre and post scans. A simple bumper job may require special paint that is radar compliant paint so your blind spot monitors and safety features work as designed. Many advanced safety features require recalibration just by removing or replacing a bumper. Even some door window switches need reprogramming. Etc.

Sounds ridiculous right ? It is . But that is where auto repair has evolved. Make sure your auto insurance is keeping up with the times and covers YOUR VEHICLES SPECIFIC needs and functions.

So you call your insurance company to make a claim. As if the informal automated phone service wasn’t enough; many insurance companies started using “AI” to write your estimates. As if that’s going to be thorough or even reasonable for the customers that work hard to pay these unaffordable insurance premiums. Nope , just another tool to delay claims and fight paying the customer what they deserve.

And just think, after your insurance company gives you that neglectful automated treatment and garbage estimate , they have the nerve to refer you to their “contracted” preferred shop.

As if somehow they can be trusted to finish the process when you have been dismissed every step thus far.

Take a deep breath and take control. Call a shop that is independent that works for you , not your insurance company.
