Sometimes I get a special request to help build something totally unrelated to framing. Last week it was a pine straw bailer. This was for family and I generally don’t take on projects like this as part of the SecondMoonshot efforts. But it turned out pretty cool…and it actually worked.

Fun little side project.

Replaced fluorescent tube with Type A+B led and repaired some of the thumbscrews. I’ll hang it up on one of the steel beams.

I haven't been doing many posts lately and business has been better than usual and being a one-man-show, keeping me busy. Here are a few notables I have done lately.

The floral mat was actually a piece of wallpaper the customer wanted me to use as the mat, so we mounted it onto a mat board. Simple and it made a great touch to the decor where it will reside.

The sheet music one was fun, we did printing on archival paper and then mounted some of the wedding bouquet and boutonnière pedals at the bottom for a 30th anniversary.

And a follow-up on an earlier post with the 152-card Pokémon set, owner sent me a picture of the final hanging since I forgot to get a picture of it.

Inspired by Short’s Hotdogs and a painting I saw made of the landmark hotdog joint. My brother-in-law (Tom Johnson) is a budding pastel artist and took on a piece of a photo of the shopfront…love it!

A very interesting framing project that tested many skills and required some creative solutions.

This is a walk-through of mounting and framing an asphalt remnant from the Raleigh Speedway (1952-1958) in a shadowbox style frame.

Next up: Another Weaver Gallery Blown Away Man in Chair Poster - Mint

Due to the volume and unique framing we do with the Maxell and Weaver Gallery Steve Steigman posters, at least once a month customers throughout the USA ask me if I have any available or if I can find quality originals.

I came across this one in Germany and the customer decided to proceed in the acquisition and … oh my, the condition for it was….STUNNING. I would classify this as Near Mint (only detractor is some scotch tape on the back which should be very easily removed. We did pay a premium for this, although I do not charge a finder fee if we also do the framing.

We did a mockup of how we are going to be framing it with a single mat of Before Dark and a Graphite metal Nielsen Profile 117 frame with TruVue Conservation Clear UV glass (we later upgraded to Museum glass)…we are thinking of going with a double thick mat. Should be a nice one.

Last Mile Picture Framing

We have a steady flow of customers that have framing projects that started out as DIY or minor projects, often to be set aside due to lost steam, unexpected complexity, or just changes in priorities.

Sometimes we will get in a frame bought over internet but the picture just wont fit or acrylic / glass needs cutting, or need to add a mat or two. Sometimes they want me to make a modification of other design elements or resize the frame. We are happy to help take these side projects and get them ready to hang.

We call these “Last Mile” projects as a carryover from similar concept used by UPS and other shipping carriers when they use USPS to do the last mile of delivery.
