Last week we had a new referred customer drop off his clean 2004 GMC Sierra pickup. His complaint was his battery would die every 2 days and he needed to jump start his truck. After doing some testing, and a finding a high parasitic draw, I had my suspicions...
I put the truck into sleep mode, disabling normal voltage draws and came in the next morning to find my suspicion correct. He had a bad alternator. Current was flowing through it. Bad diode/rectifier bridge. With my infrared camera, you can see the alternator glowing when I checked it after a night of sitting. After replacing the alternator and confirming the fix, the customer took the vehicle with a smile and reports today, there are no more issues!
Yea, we can fix that!
Happy Motoring!π
