βοΈ NOT ALL CERAMIC WINDOW TINT IS CREATED EQUAL! DON'T PAY FOR CERAMIC TINT UNTIL YOU READ THIS! ππ₯
Just because a window tint shop tells you they're installing "CERAMIC WINDOW TINT" doesn't mean you're getting high-quality heat rejection!
There are different grades of ceramic window tint, and some perform significantly better than others.
Before spending your hard-earned money, there are TWO important numbers you need to understand: IRR and TSER.
π₯ WHAT IS IRR (INFRARED REJECTION)?
IRR stands for Infrared Rejection. It measures how much infrared energy a window film rejects within a specific range of infrared wavelengths.
Infrared energy is a major contributor to that uncomfortable heat you feel coming through your vehicle's windows.
For example:
β
Ceramic Tint A: 98% IRR
β Ceramic Tint B: 65% IRR
If both films are tested using the SAME infrared wavelength range and measurement method, Ceramic Tint A rejects significantly more infrared energy within that tested range.
But here's something VERY important: A 98% IRR rating does NOT mean the film blocks 98% of all the sun's heat!
Why? Because infrared energy is only PART of the sun's total energy.
βοΈ WHAT IS TSER (TOTAL SOLAR ENERGY REJECTION)?
TSER measures the percentage of the sun's TOTAL energy that the window film and glass combination rejects.
That includes energy from infrared, visible light, and ultraviolet rays.
Think of it this way:
π₯ IRR tells you how well the film rejects a specific portion of infrared energy.
βοΈ TSER tells you how much of the sun's OVERALL energy is rejected.
For example:
β
Ceramic Tint A: 71% TSER
β Ceramic Tint B: 65% TSER
When measured under the same testing conditions, Ceramic Tint A rejects more of the sun's total energy than Ceramic Tint B.
That's a BIG difference in heat rejection!
π€ SO WHY DOES IRR MATTER IF WE HAVE TSER?
Because IRR helps you understand how effectively a ceramic film handles infrared energy, one of the major sources of solar heat.
A higher IRR can indicate better infrared rejection when comparing films tested the same way.
However, some manufacturers advertise incredibly high IRR numbers by measuring only a small portion of the infrared spectrum.
That's why you should NEVER choose your ceramic tint based on IRR alone!
The best way to compare heat rejection is to look at BOTH numbers, with TSER being your primary guide.
π° BEFORE YOU PAY FOR CERAMIC WINDOW TINT, ASK THESE QUESTIONS!
β
What BRAND and SERIES of ceramic window tint are you installing?
β
What is the film's IRR percentage, and what infrared range was tested?
β
What is the TSER percentage for the shade I'm purchasing?
β
Can I see the manufacturer's actual performance specifications?
β
What warranty comes with the film?
π¨ REMEMBER: DARKER DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN BETTER HEAT REJECTION!
A high-performance ceramic window tint can reject substantial heat without making your windows extremely dark.
And just because two shops advertise "ceramic window tint" doesn't mean you're getting the same technology, quality, or performance.
π° DON'T SHOP FOR CERAMIC WINDOW TINT BASED ON PRICE ALONE!
Educate yourself. Compare the specifications. Ask questions. Know what you're buying.
You wouldn't buy a vehicle without knowing what engine is under the hood. Why buy ceramic window tint without knowing how well it actually performs?
π₯ THE WORD "CERAMIC" DOESN'T TELL YOU HOW MUCH HEAT YOUR WINDOW TINT WILL REJECT. THE PERFORMANCE NUMBERS DO!
At Coastal Window Tinting, we believe educated customers make better decisions. That's why we encourage you to come in, compare our ceramic films, and experience our heat demonstration lamp for yourself.
