I know why, but I donโt understand the speaker manufacturers' logic. When I designed my speakers (Velocity) I made sure to include all of the information needed to make best use of my speakers. This includes very speaker model and Harley-specific equalization, details on how to modify that equalization for your particular build and listening taste, crossover settings, and even a video showing how to set the gains for the best results with any amplifier. I came by all of this information by methodically testing Velocity speakers installed in actual โeveryday riderโ bikes (hundreds of them). I did this for all of my speakers. People have better experiences with my speakers from day 1 because I show them how to save hours of tuning and avoid having to use any specialized equipment.
The reason no other speaker manufacturer hands out this information is because they donโt have it. They may have a frequency response of their speaker mounted in a wooden cabinet in a quiet room with a microphone pointed right down the barrel, but they do not have the volumes of tested information on bikes and after-tuning that I have. I think the common logic is that the tuning part is just not the manufacturers problem. So they do not invest in it. For me it is the best part of the manufacturing job. Thatโs where all of the fun is. I am good at it and I have mastered it so that my customers donโt have to. That way my customers can concentrate on the listening and enjoying part.
