As a Black business owner, Juneteenth means more than just a date on the calendar.

It represents freedom, resilience, and the strength of a people who kept pushing forward despite every obstacle placed in their way. It reminds me that generations before us fought, sacrificed, and endured so that we could have opportunities they were denied.

As the owner of Coop’s Tire Shop, Juneteenth reminds me that every tire sold, every customer served, and every dollar earned through honest work is part of a legacy of progress. There was a time when people who looked like me couldn’t own businesses, build wealth, or freely pursue their dreams. Today, I stand on the shoulders of those who made that possible.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, but it’s also a reminder of responsibility to continue building, creating opportunities, supporting our communities, and showing the next generation that success is possible.

Being a Black business owner means understanding that my success isn’t just for me. It’s a representation of perseverance, faith, hard work, and the belief that no matter where we come from, we can rise above our circumstances.

Today, I honor those who came before me, celebrate how far we’ve come, and remain committed to building something that will leave a legacy for those who come after me.
