1969 【entity-AMC¦canonical_name=AMC】 AMX 390 - 2 Views | Classic Car Relics

【entity-AMC¦canonical_name=AMC】 did not have a big budget, so they cut 12 inches off a Javelin and made the AMX. Front view shows the long hood and 390 V8 badge glowing under Sunset Diner neon, rear view shows short deck and racing stripes in the rain.

390ci, 315 HP, 0-60 in 6.6 seconds in 1969, faster than most big blocks. Red with white and blue stripes, 2-seater only, America's only steel-bodied sports car.

AMC built only 8,293 AMX in 1969. It was the underdog that beat Corvettes at drag strips across America.

In 1970, Dodge painted the Super Bee in Plum Crazy Purple and gave it three carbs. Front view shows the twin-scoop Air Grabber hood and Super Bee bumblebee logo, rear view shows the C-stripe and 440 Six Pack badging at dusk on a desert highway.

440ci, 390 HP, 3x2 carbs, 490 lb-ft. Cheaper than a Charger R/T, faster than most big blocks. Purple with white stripe, built for street racing on Woodward.

Super Bee was Dodge's working man's supercar. Today Plum Crazy cars bring $100K+ at Barrett-Jackson.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 - 2 Views | Classic Car Relics

The 1969 Z/28 was not built for the drag strip, it was built for Trans-Am road racing. Front view shows the cowl hood and Z/28 stripes carving a mountain road, rear view shows the rear spoiler and 302 badging.

302 V8, 290 HP factory rated, real 400+, 8,000 rpm screamer with 4-speed. Dark green with white stripes, built to beat Mustang Boss 302 on road courses.

Only 20,302 Z/28s built in 1969, the most desirable first-gen Camaro today. Corner carver before anyone knew what that meant.

1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet - 2 Views | Classic Car Relics

The 1970 Mach 1 was Ford's luxury muscle car with a shaker that shook. Front view shows the functional shaker hood and Mach 1 decals on a California coastal sunset, rear view shows louvers and honeycomb taillights.

428 Cobra Jet, 335 HP factory, 440 lb-ft real, Ram Air, shaker hood. Yellow with black stripes, deluxe interior, built to cruise Highway 1 and still run 13s.

Mach 1 was the best-selling performance Mustang in 1970 because it had looks and power. Today a 428 Mach 1 is a $80K+ classic.

Which view do you love more? Front shaker or rear louvers?

1970 Plymouth Superbird - 2 Views | Classic Car Relics

In 1970, 【entity-NASCAR¦canonical_name=NASCAR】 said 200 mph was too fast. Plymouth answered with a nose cone and a 23-inch wing. The Superbird.

PHOTO 1 - FRONT: That aerodynamic nose cone and fender scoops designed in a wind tunnel to slice air at Daytona. Petty Blue paint glowing at sunrise on the superspeedway.

PHOTO 2 - REAR: That massive aluminum wing and Road Runner decal with Beep Beep. It was built to keep the rear planted at 200 mph.

440 Six Pack or 426 Hemi, only 1,935 built for the street to homologate it. Richard Petty won with it. Today it is a $300K+ aero legend.

Front aero or rear wing, which view is more insane? Comment below.

Factory LIED About Horsepower So You Could Afford Insurance! 🤯

Here are 3 muscle cars that made WAY more power than advertised:

1️⃣ 1970 Chevelle LS6 - Rated 450HP, really made 500+ HP. The most powerful Chevelle ever.

2️⃣ 1969 Boss 429 - Rated 375HP, really made 600HP. Ford built it just for NASCAR and had to put it in a Mustang.

3️⃣ 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 - Rated 360HP, but had 510 LB-FT of torque. A luxury car that smoked HEMIs!

They all lied on purpose — lower HP = lower insurance = more sales.

Which factory lie would you take home? 1, 2 or 3? 👇 COMMENT!

1970 【entity-Ford¦canonical_name=Ford】 Torino Cobra Jet 429 - 【entity-Ford¦canonical_name=Ford】's Forgotten Supercar | Classic Car Relics

In 1970, while everyone was looking at Mustang and 【entity-Chevelle¦canonical_name=Chevelle】, 【entity-Ford¦canonical_name=Ford】 built a street fighter that was faster than both. The Torino Cobra Jet 429.

PHOTO 1 - FRONT: That functional shaker hood that literally shakes when you rev the 429 Cobra Jet, Ram Air scoops, and laser stripes glowing at dusk in front of a classic 【entity-Ford¦canonical_name=Ford】 dealership. 370 HP factory rated, real world over 450.

PHOTO 2 - REAR: That wide Coke-bottle body, flat rear window, and Cobra Jet badging that told the guy behind you he made a mistake.

This was Ford's NASCAR homologation car built to battle Dodge Daytona on the superspeedways. Richard Petty drove a Torino. It had C6 automatic, 3.91 Drag Pack rear, and could run low 13s stock.

It was called a working man's supercar because it was cheaper than a Shelby but faster in a straight line. Today it is one of the most underrated and fastest appreciating muscle cars in America.

Front or Rear - which view proves Ford was king in 1970? Comment below.

440ci, 390 HP, three two-barrel carbs, the budget supercar that outran Hemis for half the price. Plymouth said cheap, fast, fun and delivered.

Front says grab air, rear says catch me if you can. One caption for both desert views.

1966 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C - 2 Views | Classic Car Relics

Carroll Shelby put a Ford 427 side-oiler into a lightweight British AC body and created a missile. Front view shows side pipes and flared fenders on the Pacific Coast Highway, rear view shows twin white racing stripes and roll bars.

427ci, 425 HP, 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds in 1966, nothing could touch it. Only 260 S/C street cars were built. Blue with white stripes, side exhaust spitting fire.

This is not a roadster, it is a street legal race car. One caption for both coastal shots.

1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 - 2 Views | Classic Car Relics

In 1969 Ford needed to beat Hemi on NASCAR superspeedways so they built the Boss 429. Front view shows the massive hood scoop covering the 429 semi-hemi, rear view shows louvers and Boss 429 badging at sunrise on pit road.

Only 859 were ever built by Kar Kraft, hand modified to fit that huge engine. Factory rated at 375 HP, real output over 500 HP. Black on black, this is the rarest factory Mustang ever.

Today it is a $300K plus legend at Mecum. One caption covers front and rear.
