🧪 DETECTOR TUBE OF THE WEEK: HYDROGEN SULFIDE (H₂S)
You may recognize hydrogen sulfide by its infamous “rotten egg” smell, but did you know you should NEVER rely on your nose to determine whether H₂S is present?
At higher concentrations, hydrogen sulfide can quickly affect your ability to smell it, making proper gas detection extremely important.
🔎 Where can H₂S be found?
Hydrogen sulfide may be encountered in:
• Wastewater treatment facilities
• Sewers and confined spaces
• Oil & gas operations
• Manure pits and agricultural environments
• Pulp and paper facilities
• Chemical processing
• Industrial maintenance applications
🧪 WHY USE A DETECTOR TUBE?
Detector tubes provide a simple, portable way to check for specific gases and v***rs without requiring complicated electronic equipment.
When used with the appropriate sampling pump, a measured volume of air is drawn through the tube. A chemical reaction inside the tube creates a color change, allowing the user to determine the concentration of the target gas.
Simple. Portable. Easy to read.
⚠️ When you're dealing with potentially hazardous gases, knowing what's in the air matters.
Instrument Depot supplies detector tubes, sampling pumps, calibration gas, gas detection equipment, and accessories for industrial hygiene, environmental monitoring, workplace safety, and confined-space applications.
