"Fill and repaint"" sounds simple. Here's what it actually involves.

The shop sands your factory paint down to bare material, packs the low spot with body filler, shapes it, primes it, and sprays new paint over the top. Then, to hide the color difference, they often blend that new paint into the panels next to it. One dent can turn into a repaint on a good part of your car.

Sometimes that's the right call. If the paint is cracked or the damage is too deep, it may be the only way to fix it properly. But if the paint is still in good shape, it's worth asking whether the dent can be worked out without touching the finish at all.

That's the question we answer every day.

A dent is just metal that was pushed in where it doesn't belong. So we push it back.

Using PDR tools, we get in behind the panel and work that metal out a little at a time, reading the light on the surface as we go. No grinding, no body filler, no fresh coat of paint that doesn't quite match. When the job's done right, the paint that came from the factory is still the paint on your car.

It takes patience and a steady hand, and that's the work we do every day.

Every fall, I see the same thing. Riders park the bike for the winter with a ding in the tank they've been meaning to fix all summer.

Here's my advice: don't let it sit. That bike isn't going anywhere for a few months, so bring it in now. We'll work the dent out, keep your original paint whenever possible.

Tanks and fenders are tricky, and we take our time with them. If a dent can't be fixed without paint, I'll tell you up front.
