Owning an automobile or a piece of fine leather furniture requires The owner to take responsibility for the care of the item! Smart owners will invest some time and resources to keep up their favorite chair or automobile or couch. As I thought about it, I like to list a few habits that are worth while to help one keep his or her property in good working order.
1. Routine cleaning/conditioning. This means taking time to wipe down the object with a damp cloth and getting dust and dirt off of it. For both leather furniture and automobile seats, It is good to use the cleaner/conditioner. Leather needs moisture to keep it soft and subtle and from drying out. Many people make mistake of letting their items go for long periods of time without any maintenance!
2. For automobiles, I would recommend getting it detailed professionally once a year. Going to a reputable auto detail facility and having them clean the inside thoroughly and also the outside will keep the vehicle up and keep the owner from letting it go downhill quickly! I’ve been around such shops that do excellent work and help the owner recover the vehicle to good condition and motivate them to maintain its upkeep.
3. For fine leather furniture, I would also recommend a regular maintenance program. A lot of times the owner can simply apply a cleaner conditioner and keep it in good shape. There may be times, if the pieces are older that it may need some professional help. Sometimes that means getting the piece cleaned conditioned and possibly refinished in part or all of the areas. Owners should be aware that there are different levels of care that are needed for furniture. Sometimes, if a piece is very good and has value to the owner and is holding his value, it’s worth getting it refinished and reconditioned. There are other times when the cost of the repair and reconditioning and refinishing may exceed the value of the piece of furniture. So each situation is handled As a case-by-case situation.
4. For both automobiles and find leather furniture, there is the possibility that the item could be damaged but the owner still values it in his or her mind and wants the peace restored. Here is where getting an estimate or two from company said to restoration work is a good idea. A person getting an estimate should always carefully look it over and weigh all the factors of cost, value of the item to themselves, and their own financial resources available. A good restoration/repair company will give the owner of the item some choices and recommendations. Sometimes is worth spending money to restore something that has either sentimental value or is just a good investment to hold on to!
I hope this was helpful to you! As someone who has been in the business for over 30 years, I have seen many samples of people that took very good care of their automobiles or my mother furniture, and on the other hand some that did not do too well and had a great loss from their neglect. Thanks for reading!
