Here is a project I have been doing at home it’s my Girlfriends GMC Acadia. The engine was burning oil because the previous owner did not change the oil enough so sludge made the oil control rings on the pistons stick causing it to burn oil so I rebuilt the engine, new pistons, one connecting rod replaced, rings, main and rod bearings, oil pump, all parts were cleaned, cylinders honed, crankshaft was polished, main & rod & head bolts replaced, every gasket and seal replaced, valve job, power steering pump (noisy), alternator, starter, heater core hose assembly, water pump (wasn’t leaking but with 160k miles it’s time), power steering return lines, spark plugs, brake master cylinder was leaking slightly into the booster so I replaced the master cylinder, fuel line was rotted so I replaced it with copper nickel line so it can’t rot again, crankshaft position sensor (it has 160k miles on it and a pain in the butt to replace so while the engine was apart I replaced it). The transmission failed that was the reason for taking the engine and transmission out in the first place so the transmission was rebuilt with new torque converter, new transmission cooler lines, new transfercase seals, new full synthetic fluid for the transfercase and the rear differential and obviously all other fluids are new. We don’t typically rebuild engines very often because the costs are typically much higher then purchasing a new, remanufactured or used engines and it takes a lot of time to do them but we do them from time to time. Here’s to another 160,000 miles! WE DO IT ALL FROM BIG TO SMALL!! 585-617-4284

Here are some 3rd and 4th gear clutches from an automatic transmission out of a 2009 gmc sierra pickup truck. It’s very common for the 3rd & 4th gear clutches to burn up in these transmissions and we install a shift improver kit when rebuilding the transmission that actually helps to avoid these clutches from burning up and also corrects/updates a handful of issues with these transmissions. These clutches actually burned up because the cooler lines started leaking so it ran low on fluid causing the clutches to slip and burn up. So we replaced all 3 transmission lines, the aux transmission cooler and a full rebuild with new torque converter! This truck is ready for another 14 years of service!!

Subaru Torque converter clutch solenoid, you cannot buy just the solenoid from the dealer they only sell the entire valve body, pretty much nobody sells just the solenoid but we were able to find one and save this customer about $1,000 bucks! While it’s all apart we ohm all the other solenoids and wiring to be sure everything is working properly.

With how rapidly everything changes nowadays buying new diagnostic equipment on a weekly basis is a normal thing. Here’s another new piece of equipment I bought for the shop. This will help test electrical components for intermittent problems. I can hook up a component and program this to make the component operate as if it is on the vehicle to put it through its paces! For instance if it’s a timing solenoid I can hook it up and pulse the solenoid mimicking the pulse with modulation the vehicles engine computer does to see if it gets stuck or if it gets weak. Just another reason why we are known for fixing vehicles other shops could not figure out!

Merry Christmas everyone! Thank you for the continued support!

If you know me you know I take a lot of pride in what I do, I don’t lie, I don’t scam people, I don’t sell people stuff they don’t need. Customer comes in for a power steering leak. This customer is a very sweet little old lady, she lost her husband so she’s all alone, she started coming to my shop not long after my grandmother passed away and she reminded me so much of my grandmother. I have ALWAYS talked care of her. I never charged retail prices because I know she’s living on social security and money is tight, some stuff I didn’t even charge her for. One of the times she came in like a year ago she has a power steering leak which was the cross over tubes on the rack and pinion 99% of the time you can not buy these lines and you need to replace the rack and pinion which was the case with her van well also the lines going to the rack from the pump and cooler were in rough shape too they would have broke when trying to remove them to replace the rack so with all the parts, labor and then you would have to do an alignment after it was close to a 2,000 dollar job. I knew she didn’t have the money so I searched around to find someone that made these cross over tubes but couldn’t find the correct ones so I went to wilberts junkyard that’s 45 minutes away from my shop and I got a used rack and took the lines off that so to save her from a 2,000 repair so I could just replace the cross over tubes again because I feel so bad that she’s all alone in this world and doesn’t have the money to fix it with all brand new stuff and I wanted to get her car working for her again as cheap as possible. The first time she came to my shop she had a problem with her van stalling because the Tipm module, the fuel pump relay was bad and it’s not a relay that you can replace it’s actually part of the module and that’s an expensive repair like 1300-1500 bucks something like that well I wired in a standard 20 amp relay bypassing the fuel pump relay that’s inside the Tipm module to save her from having to pay for an expensive Tipm module. A few weeks ago she came in for some work when I was out sick with Covid. When one of my guys pulled the van in they pressed the window button to open the window that’s what we do to line the vehicle up with the lift and when they pressed the window button the window regulator broke, nothing that we did all we did was press the button we felt bad that this happened so we didn’t charge any labor just charged for the part. She asked for the brakes to get looked at, the pads were in good shape, sliders were free and all the caliper pistons pressed in fine with no binding the pistons were not sized. Well a few days after picking up the van the brake pedal got really soft so she got it towed in and the driver front caliper was locked up solid, the rotor was discolored obviously because it overheated from the caliper locking up. Again When it was at my shop a few days prior the caliper wasn’t locked up, if it was that wheel would have been smoking and smelling like burning up brakes because it was locked up. Again unfortunately the caliper was fine when it first came in. So we replaced the caliper and front brake pads for free we didn’t charge her anything. The brakes worked just fine when the car left my shop my guy even went on a test drive with the customer a day or 2 later because she thought the alignment was off. Week or 2 later she calls saying the brake pedal was soft. Soon as we get off the phone we call up a tow truck company and get the van towed to my shop at my expense. We checked over the vehicle there were no leaks so we take the brakes apart to make sure nothing is binding or locked up and everything working as it should and everything was just fine. So we put it back together and bleed the system to see if there was any air and there was nothing so more then likely one of the seals inside the master cylinder is bypassing fluid causing a soft pedal. I order a new master cylinder not a used master not a reman but a brand new one because the remans are crappy and I’m not gonna put in a used brake master. Install the master, bleed the system and the van has a great brake pedal, we keep it overnight and drive it a few times because we want to make sure there are no more issues and it was just fine. Likely what happened to the master cylinder is this, so when you use ur brakes the brake pedal only travels a few inches at best now think about this car it’s 11 years old so 11 years of the brake pedal only traveling that few inches so the bore of the master cylinder will only have wear in that few inches of travel where the piston/seal contact the bore in the master. So when you have to bleed brakes like we did when we replaced the one caliper the pedal now travels to the floor while you are bleeding the brakes so the seal is going past that wear mark/lip in the bore of the master which can damage the seal. Anyone that has done brake lines on an older car car of had a master cylinder problem after serving the brake system this is something that does happen and any really good technicians will understand what I am talking about. Anyways I try to explain this to the customer and ask if she could come in so I could show her the parts and better explain in person what all was going on and she refuses. All I get is I wasn’t there so I don’t know what happened but I absolutely know everything that happened and I know why it happened, I have cameras all over my shop that also record audio so I know absolutely everything that is going on at all times and I’ve been working on cars professionally for 22 years. It’s an unfortunate situation it really is. Any auto technician that has been in the industry a while has put pads and rotors on a car, the pistons go in like butter then a day later or maybe a week the car comes back with a caliper locked up solid. I understand a customers point of view in a situation like that but unfortunately there’s nothing you can do about that if the pistons go in like butter ur not gonna sell a customer calipers if they are currently working fine only scam artist shops do that! I don’t recommend repairs unless the car needs the repairs I believe in karma and I would rather be broke then rip anyone off. I can’t tell you how many times I get customers coming from other shops for a second opinion saying another shop said I need front brakes and both calipers and we look at it and all it needs is brakes and now that customer comes to my shop and no longer goes to the other shop because I saved them 400 bucks because my shop is honest. Anyways the past 3 times this van has been here I done work for free or given a huge discount because for one I care about the lady and 2 I understand the situation it’s a messed up situation it’s not my shops fault but it’s a messed up situation so I give huge discount to try and make things right and make the customer happy but that wasn’t good enough so I offer the job for free customer doesn’t have to pay anything. All I want is for the customer to give me 15 minutes of their time at my shop so I can physically show what happened and that has nothing to do with money or anything like that it’s just to show what happened and why it happened so there is an under standing so she can trust my shop and know that nothing was overlooked it just wasn’t it was just an unfortunate situation. Then the woman’s neighbor comes in my shop I tell her it will be just a few minutes as I was finishing up the invoice for the van and she flips out on me because she has to wait a few minutes for me to finish typing the invoice. I wanted to finish the invoice so when they tell people incorrect information about this situation it is documented so if a quality technician reads the invoice the with know the true story. Seems to be its whenever I go above and beyond to help someone out and/or save them money or whatever the case may be it always comes back to bite me. I don’t care what business anyone is in no matter how hard you try you will never be able to plead everyone. I am taking this very VERY PERSONALLY because I really cared about this nice older lady I did alot to help her out because I know that no other shop would help her out like I did, she likely wouldn’t have had a vehicle if I didn’t help her on the really expensive things or she would have had to wait a while to save the money for the expensive repairs if that was the only option she had at other shops and it felt really good to help out someone that really needed the help. This customer started coming to my shop because she was recommended by another shop like many customers of ours have been because they couldn’t fix her TIPM module issue and we do diagnostic and electrical work that many shops don’t/can’t do. Sorry for the super long rant I never post anything like this but this made me very upset we pretty much never have any issues with customers because we treat customers great and if you look at our reviews anywhere, talk to our customers, talk to other shops, talk to part stores that will just prove that we are here to help.

We have been so busy we haven’t posted in months! I would like to thank each and everyone of you for supporting our business!

Here we have a Diesel Volkswagen with a 01m automatic transmission. The transmission was slipping in 3rd gear and had torque converter shutter. Many shops would have recommended replacing the transmission but we properly diagnosed the transmission and found the valve body in the transmission was bad! Over time the bores in the valve body get “out of round” because the so the valves do not seal, the fluid bypasses the valve causing issues. We installed a rebuilt valve body, the ribbon cable harness, replaced some o-rings in reverse fluid circuit that are a common problem, new filter, gasket, filled it up with fluid and the transmission is now shifting Great again. When you have a problem like this it’s best to bring the car to the shop ASAP because if you try driving the car with it slipping you will burn up the clutches and then the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced but if you bring the car right to the shop you have a much better chance of being able to repair the transmission.

For all your auto repair needs give us a call! (585)617-4284 we are open m-f 9am - 5pm and closed on the weekends. Once in a while we do work a Saturday here and there.

Here we have a 2.4 Gm ecotech engine with a failed rear main seal simply caused by carbon plugging up pcv port. Replacing the seal is an expensive job! There is no recommended service timeline/millage to clean this port out but it’s not a bad idea to have this port cleaned out atleast every 50,000 miles to help avoid a much more expensive repair! These 2.4L ecotech engines are in many Chevy, Buick and Gmc vehicles EQUINOX, MALIBU, LaCROSSE, VERANO, REGAL,CAPTIVA, TERRAIN, ORLANDO. Generally are from model years 2010-2014. If there is any milky looking oil stuck to ur oil fill cap or if you take off ur breather hose which is connected from ur valve cover to the intake snorkel and there is water in it that’s a sign that the pcv is plugged up and should be cleaned out ASAP before the oil seal blows out. Generally if the pcv is plugged up the oil seals commonly blow out when it’s below freezing out because the water in the breather freezes so the crankcase cannot vent at all causing too much pressure making the seal to blow out. For all of your auto repair need give us a call 585-617-4284 located @ 4992 west ridge rd Spencerport.
