🚗 Did You Know?

Reading or sending a text takes your eyes off the road for about five seconds. At 55 mph, that’s like traveling the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.

Safety tip: Activate “Do Not Disturb While Driving,” put your phone out of reach and let a passenger handle messages.

🚗 Did You Know?

Under North Carolina’s Move Over Law, drivers approaching a stopped emergency or public-service vehicle with flashing lights must move one lane away when it is safe. If changing lanes is unsafe or impossible, drivers must slow down considerably and be prepared to stop.

The law includes police vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, tow trucks, utility trucks and NCDOT vehicles.

🚗 Did You Know?

If your vehicle has anti-lock brakes (ABS), you should not pump the brake pedal during an emergency stop. Press the pedal firmly and continuously while ABS automatically helps prevent the wheels from locking.

You may feel the pedal vibrate or pulse—that usually means the system is working. Keep pressing and steer toward a safe path.

A .08 BAC is the legal limit—not the point where impairment begins. NHTSA reports that alcohol can affect driving at lower levels; at .02 BAC, drivers may already experience reduced visual function and difficulty performing two tasks simultaneously.

Safety tip: If you drink, don’t drive. Choose a sober driver before the first drink.

Wet or slippery roads require at least twice your normal following distance. More space gives you additional time to brake safely if the vehicle ahead suddenly slows or stops.

Safety tip: Ease off the accelerator, avoid sudden steering or braking, and increase the space between vehicles.
