Stroll through Richfield’s “historic” backyard.

Once the estate of Jim Kirby, the vacuum cleaner inventor and entrepreneur, the Cleveland Girl Scout Council acquired the property in 1936 and many generations of scouts and community enjoyed its grounds and buildings.

Now known as the Richfield Heritage Preserve, it has become a favorite public destination for hikers and naturalists.

Rick Hudak’s 1921 Lincoln, another local historic wonder, is shown by the Kirby’s hydroelectric mill. Restored by Village Auto Body, the Lincoln is the only known surviving 1921 model 104 four-passenger coupe. It was heavily featured in 1971, for the fifty-year anniversary of the Lincoln automobile.

For many people old enough to remember the season, it stands out as the start of Northeast Ohio's love affair with the Cavs.

Fifty years ago, Cleveland had home court advantage in that opening series against Washington after winning its division, but the Cavs were the clear underdogs in a matchup against a stacked Bullets team.

It's been 50 years since the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals when the Cavs upset the Washington Bullets in Cleveland's first NBA postseason appearance.
