This customer had a bad water pump, causing a belt to fall off. Before I began installing the new pump, I pressure tested the cooling system and found that his thermostat housing was dripping coolant! I was able to correct this for him as well so he wouldn't have more issues down the line after the water pump repair. Another pressure test after torquing every bolt verified all was well. I am glad I was able to help the customer get back on the road!

This customer's vehicle wouldn't start. As I am mobile, I was able to go to the parking garage where his vehicle was still sitting (he didn't need to get a tow truck). Most shops would have diagnosed the problem as a bad starter and sold him a new one, but I was able to find the exact source of the problem with the starter and repair it so that he didn't need to purchase a new one. The customer saved about $150 by not replacing the starter!

For those interested, the stud and nut that connect the battery to the starter had been infiltrated with corrosion, which created enough heat to damage the threads. Normal voltage checks indicated voltage at the terminal, but under load the corrosion acted as a restriction. After cleaning up the threads with cleaner and a tap and die, applying NyoGel and light-duty threadlocker, the vehicle started just fine. They shouldn't have any more problems with that connection on his starter.

My name is Kevyn Sears. I started Volt Diagnosis & Repair to be a mobile vehicle repair business (I come to you) for the Rexburg and Idaho Falls areas. I specialize in electrical diagnosis and repair, “chasing ghosts” if you will. I have passed multiple industry certification tests and have real-world professional experience. Here are some things I can do (of course depending on the vehicle and problem):
- Electrical Repair
- Brakes and Light Suspension
- Minor Engine Repair
- Vehicle Inspections (Pre-purchase inspection, pre-trip readiness, etc.)
Rates:
- Labor: $75 per labor hour
- Standard Diagnosis: $50 (may vary)
- Inspections: $25
