We often serve customers who don't own a DeLorean, but enjoy other types of exotic vehicles. This is not our "core work", but it is very satisfying to help someone keep an "old family friend" on the road. We are currently entertaining a very special Lotus Esprit V8 - one of 100 of the special edition "25th Anniversary" cars. The car came in for a simple oil change, but started making rude noises while on the drive to our shop. By the time the owner arrived, the transmission was making an awful racket. These cars have a transmission that is very similar to the 5-speed trannys found in DeLoreans.

Following are a few pictures of our findings so far. The bottomline is that the clutch is worn out, with stripped splines, and there is also a damaged input shaft in the transmission - a very similar part to the DeLorean version.

We have been doing some service work on a heavily modified Jensen Healey. These cars have Lotus engines, so they fit in with some of the other Lotus projects that we have been involved with over the years. The engine work on this particular Jensen Healey involves taking care of a number of oil leaks, improving the crankcase ventilation, and creating some custom stainless steel covers for moving parts on the engine. Definitely a change of pace from working on DeLoreans!

I mentioned an upcoming roof box replacement project in another thread. We are nearly complete with the project. The condition of the original roof box was stunning ... and not in a good way. External inspection of the roof box prior to the work didn't really look all that bad. There was some lifting of the roof box along the edges, and some corrosion on some visible fasteners. However, once we dug into it, the structure was completely compromised. The new roof box was provided by the customer and was sourced from DPI. The installation went fairly smoothly, considering where we started from.

These brand new windshields are priced at $600 USD, plus shipping or installation (if applicable). Shipping is via motor freight, and the shipping cost depends on the location that the part is shipped to. Installation is available right here at our shop.

An urgent request - we sent a set of the Drayron sequential tail lights to a customer in Prescott, Arizona. The package was delivered by UPS today, set on top of a mailbox out on the road. The package was then stolen by somebody a bit later. If you hear of anyone in that area who is trying to sell a set of these awesome tail lights, could you please contact me so that we can perhaps get these back? That would be fabulous! Thanks gang!

It's time for some urgent maintenance on the lift that we use everyday here at the shop. I didn't notice anything until a couple of days before Christmas, but one of the synchronizer cables was failing rapidly. You guys with your own lifts should keep an eye on these sorts of things! Yikes!

Sometimes it's the little things found that can reduce the chances of the "ride of shame" in the future. For instance, we noticed a small crack in the insulation of the ground wire leading to the fuel pump. The insulation around the crack looked odd. It turned out that about half of the copper strands were broken in a slight kink caused by a pinch, and the resulting smaller number of conductive strands were heating up when the pump was powered up. This wire was very close to failure. On the power wire in the same area, the crimp for the pin in the connector was loose, resulting in heating and damage to that wire as well. Moral of the story is to examine everything carefully when you are maintaining your DeLorean so that you can enjoy the car with peace of mind.

We just received an airflow mixture housing and fuel distributor in for service as "loose parts". These are going to need lots of love to bring them back. The fuel distributor is seized solid, and the crust everywhere is just nasty. However ... everything will be spiffy in no time!
