We are truly grateful to Eric for leaving us such a warm and heartfelt review. ❤️

Eric and his family were traveling from Monterey, CA to Spokane, WA when they experienced unexpected vehicle trouble. They were on a tight schedule, had a car full of luggage, and their daughter was getting ready to head off to college. In this difficult situation, they came to Kuma Automotive on Friday, and our team did everything we could to help get them safely back on the road while also helping with their hotel and transportation arrangements.

In the end, they were able to complete their journey and make it to Spokane as planned. Hearing that their vehicle was running great after the repair and that they felt “at ease and well taken care of” truly meant so much to us. 🙏

🇩🇪 German Engineering Deserves Expert Care.

German vehicles are known for their engineering, performance, and advanced technology — but when something goes wrong, proper diagnosis matters.

At KUMA Automotive, we provide professional diagnostics, maintenance, and repair for German and European vehicles.

We don't believe in simply replacing parts based on a fault code or guessing at the problem.

🔧 REAL MERCEDES-BENZ DIAGNOSTIC CASE

Recently, a Mercedes-Benz came into our shop with a recurring problem: the battery would go dead after the vehicle sat for a period of time.

The battery and charging system initially appeared to operate normally, but further testing revealed an excessive 2+ amp parasitic battery draw while the vehicle was turned off.

Instead of guessing and replacing parts, we performed systematic electrical testing and circuit isolation to find the actual source of the problem.

🔍 We Found TWO Separate Problems:

1️⃣ Alternator — Primary Parasitic Draw

The alternator was charging normally while the engine was running, but internally drawing excessive current after the vehicle was shut off.

This is the type of problem that can easily be missed by a basic charging-system test.

After replacing the alternator, the charging system returned to normal and the majority of the battery drain was eliminated.

But we didn't stop there.

Further testing showed that the vehicle still had more parasitic draw than it should.

2️⃣ Overhead Control Panel (OCP) — Secondary Parasitic Draw

By continuing to isolate individual circuits, we identified another electrical draw coming from the vehicle's overhead control system.

After completing the repair and allowing the vehicle to fully enter sleep mode, we performed a final verification.

✅ FINAL RESULT: APPROXIMATELY 35 mA

The vehicle went from an abnormal 2+ amp battery draw to approximately 35 mA in sleep mode — within an acceptable range.

Problem found.
Problem repaired.
Repair verified.

🔍 WE DIAGNOSE — NOT GUESS.

Modern German vehicles contain dozens of interconnected electronic control modules.

A dead battery doesn't always mean the battery is bad.

A charging alternator doesn't always mean the alternator is good.

And a fault code doesn't always mean the component named in that code needs to be replaced.

Accurate diagnosis can prevent unnecessary repairs and save you from replacing expensive parts that weren't actually causing the problem.

Sometimes a vehicle gets towed into the shop for what seems like a major problem, but the actual cause can be surprisingly simple.

This 2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter came to us with a diesel fuel leak.

After a thorough inspection, we found that the retaining clip at the fuel filter connection was missing. Without that small clip, the fuel line had worked itself loose and diesel was leaking from the connection.

We installed a new retaining clip, bled the fuel system, cleared the fault codes, and completed a road test. Everything checked out and the van was back on the road.

After years of working on cars, I've learned that good repairs aren't about replacing the most parts,they're about finding the real problem.

Many times, what customers are paying for isn't the small part itself, but the experience and knowledge to diagnose the issue correctly and fix it right the first time.

Some jobs are more than just repairs—they're about helping keep a well-loved car at its best.

Recently, this 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 came into the shop for a headlight upgrade. The owner brought in a new set of headlight assemblies, and we were happy to take care of the installation.

After everything was installed, we carefully tested every lighting function to make sure it was working properly. Seeing a car that's been well cared for over the years leave the shop looking refreshed is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Recently, we helped a customer with a 2004 Lexus IS300 that was having key-related issues.

The customer expected the repair might turn into an expensive situation, but after properly diagnosing the problem, we were able to provide and program a new key without unnecessary repairs or costs, getting the vehicle back on the road quickly.
