Leiting Auto Supply celebrates 25 years of business in 2011
RANDOLPH - Paul and Peggy Leiting, owners of Leiting Auto Supply, celebrated 25 years in business in 2011 The Leitings purchased the business in August 18 of 1986 from Ed Kessler. The growing business found room to stretch out when Paul and Peggy purchased the adjacent building to the west. After remodeling, the building houses office spa
ce, a warehouse and a shop. Paul and Peggy have seen many changes in their business through the past quarter century. When they first began, all items in their inventory were recorded on file cards. At the end of each day, Paul went through the cards to make a list of items that needed ordered. Statements were also done by hand. Today, the business’ inventory is stored on their computer, which is also used for ordering parts needed and for billing. Paul says jokingly that he can’t run his business today without electricity. Twenty-five years ago, automobile engines were mechanical and today have become increasingly electronic. When he first began business, Paul said that each engine had many small parts, which were replaced individually. Today’s vehicles are more likely to have a larger unit that will need to be replaced. He looks for that trend to increase in the future with vehicle engines having seven or eight computers. Leiting said that at one time he sold many carburetors, but now the few he does sell are for tractors - the fuel-injected engines no longer use them. Though the business has seen many changes throughout the years, the most important things about Leiting Auto Supply have not changed at all. Through the years, Paul and Peggy agree that they have had many loyal customers. They have also found that Randolph is made up of many great people they can count on for support. The community can also count on the Leitings.
