PSA: TheLab currently is not accepting any new projects of any kind at the moment. We are intently committed to the completion of any and all of our current client list work. Our primary focus is providing our current client list the complete attention they need.

Congrats to Chuck and family for getting first place in the vw class with a best time of 11.57 average 112 mph traveling over 800 miles from track to track with Zero engine break downs except for a serpentine idler pulley failure, easy fix and now on his 3rd year of running a set of in collaboration with BrothersVW running on what a wild now we chase 10’s with the ultimate package 😀 rain or shine!

Congratulations running a set of our built in collaboration with Brothers VW running mid 11’s for the 3rd year in a row at has now clocked over 800 miles driving from track to track and racing with little issues.
This is a remarkably good running efficient profile cruising at an average 24 MPG running 11’s and driving 100’s of miles under all weather conditions, this car is driven and raced on
It can be done, and we are glad to be part of it.
Proven results, Time to put more of these wicked profiles on the road, stay tuned !

This one a long ways away from being a stream line butterfly, but it’s getting its metal face lift done for Jason. He got this in Canada with quite a bit of rot, has had it stored for a long time waiting for the right moment and it needs absolutely near everything, but it’s in the right hands at the moment. only 2 done at a time from start to finish, appointment only!

PSA, not long ago we saw an incredibly beautiful 56 oval window fully restored it was not running well and has not for some time. On the surface everything look good and generally clean, but when we pulled the carbs off to disassemble the vehicle for other upgrades we notice these cabs have been leaking and soaked for some time. This is a major fire waiting to happen and your clean restored VW may not survive. We do primarily new engine assembly. However there are many qualified attention to detail mechanics out there that can help. Please schedule your every 6M-1Y maintenance to go over your fuel system to avoid a tragedy.
Never rely even on a car running just right to get to and from show and tell event, it can be the difference between your ride staying clean or not surviving.
If you purchase a new set of carb never rely on them coming well sealed and all surface seal and copper washers being perfectly snug tight (NEW CARBS) have to be gone through for snugging and jetting anyways. Better to err on the side of caution 🫶🏼

Special type 3 updates for some performance type 3 engines completed, tested and final fitment on the true bolt on hub sand seal set up, does require mild drilling and tapping but makes it far more secure seal. (Sometimes with oil pressure sand seals can be pushed out)! See a post that posted recently that displays this problem.
This does several things for performance type 1 and 3 engines.
1) allows the sealing on the nose of the case for oil spilling prevention. Some might say it’s not needed but Porsche did long ago in 356 engine and was standard, vw later added them to type 4 engine standard.
2) it’s a larger quality double seal which allows for more surface area of the fan hub (more material) to allow for greater strength and stability, which prevents hub splitting.
3) easily replaceable seal
4) the hub is much narrower which does not require a slinger washer spacer, there is enough space between the pulley or type3 fan and hub.
The type 3 inner housing half does need to be a larger diameter to fit over the sand seal hub. This will now be a standard product on all our engine, in the future it will require removal of the counter sink bolt to split the case halves if it is needed. If it is no longer used, the holes can be plugged or welded.
Note: this seal will not fit with standard cut sand seal pulley sold on the market now, however we are looking for a replacement seal that can be used for such pulleys. Also, if you already have a machined in sand seal cut in the case, we plan e to make bushings that will fill in that gap so this bolt on hub can be used.
The his bolt on hub is a standard product sold by which we thank them for supplying it. Their sand seal pulleys are a larger hub diameter, but we plant to have an interchangeable seal for all pulley sizes on the market, so we can supply these to customers. We plan to supply both the drill bit and tap with the kit of choice. Call us for your needs, thanks!
