Rok Sonoma rd.2 done.
We arrived on Friday with the goal of a top 10. We knew we would be a little off pace on Friday, so we focused on learning the track and getting me better each and every time I sat down in the kart. Saturday came around and we were much quicker, I learned so much from Erik Doan Racing 🇺🇸 throughout the day, and by the end of the day we were easily looking at a top 10. Sunday morning we went out for practice on old tires while the rest of the field was on brand new slicks. With all of the coaching from Erik Doan Racing 🇺🇸, the Birel art S19 chassis, and Ron White Racing and their superb engines, we finished P8 in warmup.
Quali was up next and we were fast. The only problem is I had to fight my way through traffic with no draft. Totally our fault. We ended up going out near the back of the field, and it did not work. At the end of qualifying we found ourselves P11. Not the result we wanted, but we knew there was so much more pace to find.
Heat 1 started and I got shuffled down the field. After a couple of laps, we found our pace once again and recovered back up to P13.
Heat 2 was a bit better, I finished P12 after a hard fought battle right to the line with Jimmy Phan.
The final was better. We reached our goal, I fell out of draft after the first couple of laps meaning I wasn’t able to fight as much as I wanted, but nonetheless I managed to finish P10 on track and P9 after penalties!
The pace is there and the results are starting to get better.
Overall it was an incredible weekend and I couldn’t have done it without Erik Doan Racing 🇺🇸, Birel art, Bob Tuerck, and Ron White Racing. Thank you all. The memories I made were some of the best. Onto the next one!
