This week, we're back in NY and Chris is doing final fitting on the cowling side panels of our customer's beautiful Helio. Our goal this week is to get this turbine started up and ready for DAR approval.

A little bit of crosswind and bumpy but still got’r stopped under 75 feet! The Turbine Courier can do incredibly steep approaches and high sink rates but it still has great flare authority, pull back and the slats pop out giving you extra lift and immediate drag, plopping it on the ground quickly and hitting your spot. My passenger, Cole, said “Wow, you could land this on a roof top!”

Horsing the DO-27 off at 38 knots indicated. Empty weight is 2600 on this big bird. (4100 lbs gross) It always amazes me how well it does on only 295 hp. I get asked a lot “when are you going to put a turbine on it?” It only has 60 gallons of fuel capacity and this Lycoming GO-480 only has 300 hours SMOH. So I have two things to fix first, fly more hours off this really good running motor before pulling it and figure out where to put another 60 gallons.
