Having the same shop service your car for tire rotations and oil changes will catch problems about to happen. Here is a retaining nut on a TPMS sensor that has cracked and when it comes apart will cause you an instant flat!

Question:
How do I know when I need a wheel alignment?

Princeville Automotive Answer:
When Princeville car owners' wheels are properly aligned they all point in the same direction. When they are out of alignment, most auto owners notice a couple of things. First the family car pulls to one side when driving. It could be slight or pretty severe. If your wheels have been out of alignment for a while, you’ll also start to see uneven tire wear – the shoulder on either the outside or inside of the tire is worn down more than the other.

A whole bunch of steering and suspension components are joined together. Everyday driving can cause motorists' wheels to go out of alignment over time just from the joints loosening up. That’s why most auto manufacturers recommend an alignment check every couple of years. Depending on where you live in IL or the conditions you drive in (off-road driving, harsh winter conditions, poor pavement, etc.) – an alignment inspection every year at Princeville Automotive may be called for.

Suspension and steering components wear over time as well which can lead to detrimental and costly alignment issues for motorists. Of course, a big bump like hitting a curb or pothole can knock a wheel out of alignment or damage an important steering or suspension part.

Your personable Princeville Automotive service advisor will survey your tires for uneven wear. The type of wear provides clues for what might be wrong. Undercar parts are inspected for wear and damage. The alignment machine will provide a reading of how each wheel is aligned. The reading is compared with the alignment settings recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, and then the service specialist makes the necessary adjustments and repairs to bring your wheels back into alignment.

Now putting off a wheel alignment in Princeville can get costly for Princeville car owners because of tire wear: a bad alignment can chew through a tire pretty quickly. If you see uneven tire wear, if your steering wheel is off center, or your family car pulls to one side ask your personable Princeville Automotive service professional about getting an alignment check.

Question:
My tire pressure warning light came on recently. What does that mean?

Princeville Automotive Inc. Answer:
It means that one or more of your tires has low air pressure. The dashboard warning light, which looks like a cross-section of a tire with some lines in it, comes on when the tire pressure is 20% below what the auto maker recommends. So if your recommendation is for 35 psi (pounds per square inch), the light will come on when your pressure falls to 28 psi.

It’s vital to note that 20% below recommended pressure is significantly under-inflated. This means that you will be experiencing degraded handling and that your tire will be running hotter than it should. This can not only be a safety hazard, but your tires will wear prematurely and could even suffer a heat related failure.

Princeville drivers should not use their Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning light as their trigger for checking their tire pressure. They should still check their tire pressure at least once a month.

Some Princeville motorists mistake the tire pressure printed on the side of the tire as the recommended pressure for the vehicle. This is not the case. The information on the tire is the range the tire can handle. The correct pressure for your vehicle is on a plate or sticker on the driver’s side door or door jamb. This is the pressure your tires should have to match the engineered handling capacity of your vehicle. Please note that the pressure may be different for your front and rear tires.

You TPMS does not have a regularly scheduled maintenance interval. However, be aware that the batteries in the sensors mounted in each wheel will eventually die, illuminating the warning light and necessitating replacing the sensor. Sensors can also be damaged by road salt and other contaminants.

Some TPMS systems indicate tire pressures for individual wheels which will tell Princeville auto owners which tire is low – as long as the system has been reset after rotating the tires. Other systems will simply give a warning and it is up to you to check all your tires (including the spare). For more information, communicate with your personable Princeville Automotive service advisor.

The government mandated TPMS systems to reduce tire-related accidents, property damage, injuries and deaths. The automotive professionals at Princeville Automotive in Princeville recommend that you have your tire pressure checked at least once a month to maintain your safety and increase tire life.
