Princeton Electric Speedboating touched down at the historic Lake X!

Earlier this March, PES was invited by Mercury Racing to go the historic Lake X and test our newest boat - Eagle 1. Eagle 1 has been in development for over 2.5 years, dating back to before Big Bird ever set the electric kilo world record. The team has put countless hours into getting Eagle 1 ready for testing during this time, especially since mid-January when the Spring Semester started. Lake X was the first time the boat went in the water with great success! During routine power testing, Eagle 1’s new powertrain had a continuous power output that peaked at 186 HP, 4 more HP than Big Bird ever made. And that was just with the training wheels 😎 After pushing the limits of the system throughout the week, the team saw power outputs that were approaching double to what Big Bird had ever made.

This is just the start of Eagle 1’s journey as the team works to get her ready to beat our OWN record for the fastest electric speedboat in the world!

PES would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to Mercury Racing for this one of a kind opportunity to race at Lake X. Thank you to Chris Jenks and David Dins for supporting our electric kilo record program. Getting to learn from you all and your fellow engineers and race team was truly a privilege and we look forward to implementing the many lessons we learned at Lake X to Eagle 1 as she gets ready for a record event later in 2026. It was an honor to work with Mercury team on this project and we could not value the partnership more.

Stay tuned for more updates about Eagle 1, the journey is just beginning! 🚤

HAPPY TWO YEARS BIG BIRD! 🏆🎂🎉

Exactly two years ago today, PES brought our beloved "Big Bird" down to Lake Townsend, North Carolina, and cemented our names in the history books in the crisp October morning air 🍂 Two full years later, we are proud to say that Big Bird's 114.20 mph world record still stands! 🥇

This day forever altered the trajectory of marine performance, motivating our team to prove that electric can go even faster. The team has been hard at work building Eagle 1, our new hydroplane vessel that will attempt to beat this very world record. Today we celebrate some of our favorite memories of that special record attempt and look forward to making more similar memories soon 🚤

Happy 250th Birthday to our United States Navy and Marine Corps!

On Friday, some of our team members had the opportunity to join DVIRC and other partners of the Navy at the Homecoming 250 celebration in Philadelphia, PA. We got to display Big Bird and its contribution to sustainable technology on the water!

Thank you to Dr. Mike Briscoe from the American Society of Naval Engineers - ASNE for inviting us to attend and learn about the innovations being brought to the Navy, as well as connect with the companies that drive progress in the engineering of the maritime industry!

To those who serve our country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps around the world, thank you for your service, selflessness, and sacrifice!

Last week, we loved seeing everyone at our first general meeting and our first visits to the shop. What a great start to the school year!

If you’re interested in joining, there’s still time! Come today at 4:30pm for our general meeting in Robertson 100, and we’d be happy to introduce you to the team and to our exciting new projects this semester!

We also have an Intro to Electric Hydroplane Boat Racing workshop at 5pm today, so you can get a better sense of what we’re all about! We can’t wait to see everyone soon!
