Why your vehicles and equipment continue
to rust all summer long!!
Keeping your investments clean is only part of the equation.
Road brine liquids are corrosive primarily due to the chloride salts they contain, such as sodium, calcium, and magnesium chloride. They are very effective at lowering the freeze point of water (helping to prevent ice formation) but also have properties making them particularly aggressive toward metals.
1. Hydrophilic Nature: Chloride salts attract and retain moisture, even from the air (humidity). This creates a persistent wet environment that promotes corrosion on metal.
2. Pe*******on into Crevices: The small molecular size of chloride ions allows them to seep into tiny cracks and crevices in metals, where they can accelerate rusting.
3.Prolonged Activity: Magnesium chloride, for example, is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air (humidity) and remains active even when it appears dry. This prolongs its corrosive effects.
4. Recrystallization: These salts can cling to surfaces and recrystallize as they dry, further damaging metal over time.
No BS... 2 ways to handle this, do not expose your investments to the elements, or get a rust control oil application!!
