Let me walk you through a scenario of a recent situation of a customer of ours where choosing where you go matters.
This customer was stuck; leaving their car running or simply not going anywhere at all. It would fail to start when it was warm and would sometimes start when it was cold. It was getting worse.
They brought it to a shop that misdiagnosed it, not once, not twice, but three different times and essentially sent the full Parts cannon at this car.
They did the battery, they did the main fuse block, which is quite expensive. They told them they needed new immobilizer ring because they the copper ring was not sending the correct single for the immobilizer (reading the chip), that was even more expensive.
That’s what led them to us. The request to replace the immobilizer ring and get the keys reprogrammed based on this other Shop’s recommendation.
So we Programmed them a new key and replaced the immobilizer ring as they had requested and the vehicle continued to have the no start issue.
At this point we asked them what have you had for diagnostics. They advised all the above but mentioned they had not had the starter tested. They said that the shop told them the starter was just fine and that it had to be something else. I told them that it sounded a lot like a faulty starter solenoid. I asked they would be willing to have us run some diagnostics on it.
So we pulled the starter and we test the solenoid and sure enough it was faulty. So we get the starter replaced after properly diagnosing it. We gave them back not only piece of mind but the freedom to drive their vehicle wherever they need to go without worrying if it was going to start or not.
So again, I caution you to choose the shop that you go to carefully. Research them. What is their experience level? How long have they been doing it? What do their reviews look like? Because choosing the wrong shop can cost you more than just money, but it can cost you peace of mind as well, especially in the case of this customer.
