I’ve recently seen quite a few invoices for basic services from local oil change and service centers, not because we’re digging thru receipts, but for some reason there’s been an increase in half🫏 work coming out of these facilities. 4 times in the past month I’ve been called to evaluate or sort out leaking fluid and stalling vehicles, all immediately after an oil change. Additionally, received a video from my buddy I coach soccer with, of oil pouring from the bottom of his Jeep immediately after having it serviced. Sure, things happen, but this has gotten ridiculous.

Then I saw the price on the receipts. Holy s**t, the general public is paying $115-$175 to have basic 4-6 qt oil changes done…. Unreal. Then they break your air filter housing and wedge a piece of plastic in your throttle body 😂.

Oil is pricey, but it’s not that pricey. Driving a d&mn Landrover or something, sure, you wanna look fancy, you oughta have fancy money. 2008 Malibu with a 2.4L doesn’t require anything special beyond GM’s famed Dexos. That’s about a $75 oil change.

Stop overspending, call for an appointment. Drop it off, get it done right.

Not getting into any heavy details of who and where, but this vehicle wound up stalled out in an intersection where the owner, luckily an ox, was obligated to push the car out of the street himself. All of this just moments after having it serviced up the street. Crash indicators, ABS, lane departure, engine light… every light in the house. Even after locating the issue, ECM value reset/relearns along with ABS Zero Point Calibration were required with a capable scan tool in order to get this thing back on the road.

Seriously, even when doing something as simple as checking an air filter, take your time. That little bit of plastic sure could’ve had it’s way with an intake valve…

This one definitely tried our patience… NEVER install a larger fuse than the circuit was built to handle. All the ASE patches in the world don’t mean a thing if you’re still dumb and lazy enough to call a 50amp fuse in a 40amp slot a fix.

8v’s on the block, 6 on the frame, shorted starter just behind the oversized cat converter.. no way. Love that Jeep is still around to remind us, it can always get dumber. Not at all a fire waiting to happen… and where’s that 4th cat manifold bolt, well duh, it’s squeezed behind it silly.

Quick way to see if the evaporator might need further investigating. Not all HVAC drains are accessible under the dash, some only under the vehicle or at the firewall. If the system does in fact have dye, a clean cup (preferably not plastic, they collect film that can be mistaken for dye), collect the condensation, any dye that has settled in the HVAC box will make its way… from here, a bore scope or find access to visually inspect the evaporator and confirm the leak.
